After you have changed your password

Submitted by wcm on Wed, 04/08/2015 - 3:21pm

What do I do now?

  • Keep your old password somewhere safe! You may need to use it for some services.
  • Mobile devices that use AirUC or to access email will not be affected. Enter your new password when prompted.
  • Mobile devices that use AirUC-Secure and Exchange Email (eg. through an app) will need to have your new password to maintain a connection. See the instructions on this page for your particular device.

What university services will NOT use my new password?

Some services have unique passwords, although they may use your IT username. The following services have been identified as using their own password management:

  • Adobe Connect, for instructors / presenters
  • Destiny One / Continuing Education
  • Frontline
  • Mac / OS X Login
  • SecurID Authentication (and some other methods of logging into Peoplesoft)

Are we missing a service from this list? Please email to let us know what other university service allows you to log in using your IT Username and a different password.

Where can I test my new password?

Try going to and test our your password there. Don't log out of your computer if you are unsure of your password!

What delays may I experience in this process?

  • Mobile devices may continue to use your old passwords to log into UofC email and wireless, then unexpectedly fail without warning or notification. There are instructions on this page for how to update that password, if your devices do not prompt you in the first 30 minutes after your password change.
  • If you are logged into a SharePoint site, with SharePoint documents open, you will experience a delay. Close all documents, (saving locally, if required) and wait half an hour before logging into SharePoint. If you are still experiencing issues, shut down your computer and attempt again.
  • University Supported PC's may continue to allow you to log in using your old credentials. Dock your computer/Connect to the internet to allow it to receive the new password.

If you are prompted, enter your new password. These instructions will help if your device does not prompt within the first few hours.

Why should I update my password on my devices?

After the password change your wireless and email connections may persist on your mobile devices for a period of time, (up to a few days) then cut out unexpectedly.  Your cellphone may switch to your personal data plan without notification.  Please update your information to help eliminate the above issues.

AirUC-Secure: Using the Manufacturer's Wireless Management Utility

There are a variety of wireless enabled devices that might be able to use WPA2, but do not use common operating systems. Additionally, some people prefer to use the wireless management utility provided by their manufacturer. Since we cannot cover every instance, the basic settings you may need for the "airuc-secure" network are:

Network/SSID: airuc-secure (you may have to manually type this in)
Network Authentication Method: WPA2 (also sometimes called WPA2, WPA2-RADIUS, or WPA2-Enterprise)
Data Encryption Method: AES
Authentication Protocol: MSChapv2
CA Certificate: VeriSign Class 3 v4 (or similar)
