Graduate College Scholar Expectations & Membership

We recognise that Scholars are at UCalgary for their research. However, to ensure that Scholars benefit from their time in the College, we expect them to participate in events. It is important to note, the majority of our events occur during weekday evenings.

 

I. Responsibilities and Minimum Expectations of the Scholars

By accepting admission to the College Scholar Community, all members agree to take on the following responsibilities and acknowledge these minimum expectations for continued membership:

  1. Upholding the values of The College and contributing to the goals and visions of The College
  2. Review communications in a timely manner (Newsletter, email, Slack).
  3. Actively engage in discussions and vote on matters of importance for the Graduate College.
  4. Organize, lead, or otherwise support at least one College event per academic year
  5. Prioritize attendance at College Huddles (must attend a min. of 50%)
  6. Serve as a College Ambassador to their department and/or Faculty, helping to promote relevant College Scholar Community events, initiatives, and opportunities
  7. Be an active Pod member.
  8. Bring a guest to at least one public facing College event per term
  9. Provide a photograph and short biography for the website’s Scholar Profiles page

 

II. College Scholar Community Membership

  1. All individuals selected by The College’s selections committee who accept the offer of admission are considered members of The College Scholar Community.
  2. Members maintain their Scholar membership from year to year by meeting the minimum participation regulations.
  3. The membership term for returning scholars is May 1 to April 30.
  4. The membership term for new scholars who are admitted to The College over the summer is September 1 to April 30.
  5. Membership terms and participation requirements are not applicable to Senior Scholars.
