My PhD (2012) thesis was an exploration of nurses' work on acute care mental health units using concepts and images from Buddhist thought. I am interested in the the role of the humanities in understanding nursing in its historical and cultural (and cross-cultural) contexts and published a book "Nursing and Humanities" (Routledge, 2020). I am currently exploring Trauma Informed Practice from this perspective. I have expertise in interpretive qualitative research, particularly hermeneutics, and have published theoretical articles about forms of nursing knowledge.

Working with this supervisor
For course based or thesis students, my area of clinical knowledge is mental health (adult and older adult primarily). For thesis students, my strength is in qualitative research and in particular interpretive, or hermeneutic work. I am best placed to support students who are interested in exploring a topic of interest in depth by approaching it as a complex, social, and dynamic phenomenon.
