I wish to welcome you to the new format of our Faculty newsletter. On behalf of the Faculty I wish to thank Stuart Walker and his colleagues for their incredible work on the past issues of Intervention.

As part of the Faculty's overall planning process, a promotions and communication task force was set up to explore ways that we could better communicate amongst ourselves as well as with the outside community. The Committee made a number of recommendations, several of which are now being implemented. A more frequent, shorter newsletter was seen as an important component of this strategy. The newsletter also appears on the Faculty's web page.

This newsletter will be produced three times a year in early September, early January, and early May. It has a number of intentions, but largely to inform both the EVDS community as well as the outside community of important events and achievements within the Faculty. We certainly do encourage all of our community to see this as a means of sharing information on events and happenings.

This issue is somewhat different since we are attempting to provide a perspective on the Faculty planning process and the changes that have occurred. Throughout this newsletter you will see a discussion of the implications of change as we have defined them. Please feel free to contact either Ron Wardell, Dixon Thompson, or myself regarding any questions that you might have.

Future issues will have "departments", in particular, news from the degree programs, EVDS-SA, as well as alumni. We make a special plea to alumni to keep us aware of their changes in address and job situations.

The Faculty will continue to explore the possibility of publishing a Faculty magazine which will provide an opportunity for a range of stakeholders to discuss ideas and to present initial findings of research and outreach projects. We would appreciate any comments that you may have regarding the desirability of publishing a faculty magazine once a year.

We would also appreciate any comments you might have on the newsletter.
