Community
Workshops
Similar to seminars, a short community workshop
outlines basic principles and techniques needed in an eco-neighbourhood.
For example, techniques for energy reduction and composting principles can
be presented and construction techniques given for a "do-it-yourself"
approach.
"Eco-ware" party
Think environmentally-friendly Tupperware.
These parties, hosted by an individual within the community, can offer all
of the latest gizmos and gadgets, and offer a great means for social
networking. These events provide great topics of conversation and reach
individuals in a comfortable environment.
Web sites
The internet offers a wealth of information
on all of the latest technologies, techniques and theories in ecological
initiatives. This data serves as both an individual and a community
resource, and is fully accessible to most people.
Community Newsletter
A sure-fire way to reach each member of the
community, but no guarantee exists that they will read the information.
Something very text-heavy can be daunting even for the most enthused individual
- keep it short, simple and clean.
Information Booths
Similar to a science fair, information booths
and displays allow for an up-close-and-personal look at the proposal, and
one-on-one interaction between the presenter and community members.
Displays should be interactive and graphic heavy to draw the most
attention.
Small-scale demonstrations
A variation on the above, small-scale demonstrations
provide a stage to encourage interaction with technologies and opportunities
for discussion and research.
