Environmental Physics

What we do

We use isotopes in Environmental and Atmospheric Physics to define how trace gases and atmospheric particles influence cloud characteristics, meteorology and climate. One focus is on tracing how microorganisms at soil/air and water/air interfaces contribute to intense precipitation events. We also work on trace detection of carbon dioxide (CO₂) leaks and factors in soil that affect CO₂ uptake.  Three topics we're  recently focused on are:

  • Aerosol formation
  • Precipitation
  • Trace gas and pollution detection and attribution

Our research is based on a combination of laboratory and field work, as well as data analysis and system modeling.
