211 Alberta

Albertans can get information about mental health and addiction services through 211 Alberta, which provides information, referrals, and crisis support by calling 2-1-1, texting INFO to 211, or chatting online. 211 Alberta provides free, confidential service in over 170 languages.

Access Addiction and Mental Health

Albertans living in the north, central, and south zones of Alberta can contact Recovery Alberta’s Access Addiction and Mental Health (1-888-594-0211) for support with mental health and addiction concerns.

Addiction Helpline

Call 1-866-332-2322 for 24-hour, 7 day a week confidential service that provides support, information and referrals to Albertans experiencing addiction and mental health concerns.

Adult Addiction Services

Call 403-367-5000 for non-medical treatment facility for those experiencing problems related to their use of alcohol, drugs, gambling, or sex addiction. These services offer short-term outpatient counselling, support groups, and 4-week intensive day treatment plans.

Counselling Alberta

Community Connect YYC

Services offered include rapid access counselling, addictions supports, sexual health counselling, domestic violence support, caregiver support, peer support, and counselling for persons with disabilities, and immigrants and first languages. Available for adults, children, youth, and families.

Digital Overdose Response System

Alberta’s Digital Overdose Response System (DORS) app provides emergency support services for individuals using substances should they become unconscious. DORS is free and can be downloaded to any smartphone from the Google Play or Apple app stores. More information about the app can be found on their website.

Recovery Alberta is the agency responsible for the delivery of publicly funded mental health care in Alberta. Recovery Alberta’s Addiction and Mental Health Clinics provide programs and services in communities across the province. Albertans can find clinic locations here.

Virtual Opioid Dependency Program (VODP) provides same day access, with no fees and no waitlist, to evidence-based treatment medications for opioid addiction. VODP can be accessed by phone at 1-844 383-7688 or online through their website.

The Alberta Quits Helpline is 1-866-710-7848.

The Alberta Quits Helpline is a free, confidential phone service that connects you with trained quit counsellors who provide support, strategies, and information to help you reduce or quit smoking or vaping. 

Facilitated peer group meetings for individuals questioning their relationship with substances. In these groups you will find a safe environment to ask questions, free from stigma or discrimination. Individuals seeking help or wanting to help others are welcome.

The Canadian Mental Health Association for Edmonton and surrounding area offers a variety of programs and services that assist individuals 16 years of age and older, with reaching their short and long-term mental health goals.

Recovery Dharma uses Buddhist principles for addiction recovery and offers online meetings (women’s only, BIPOC, and more available).

 

SMART Recovery stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training. SMART Recovery offers free mutual support meetings offered online and in-person.

The Sober Black Girls Club is a collective that provides love, support, and resources to Black girls, women, femmes, and nonconforming folks living or considering beautiful sober lives. 

BIPOC meetings available.

Sunrise Healing Lodge provides Indigenous‑based family counselling, sharing circles and education about the effects and consequences of alcohol and other drug use.

Support for Supporters

Al-Anon can help people learn how to cope with the challenges of someone else’s drinking. Al-Anon welcomes members of all faiths, or of none. 

Family Advocacy Support Centre is a peer empowerment community for people impacted by a parent’s substance use. 

Fresh Start Recovery provides education, information and support to help families and friends understand addiction and how to live a life in recovery. 

Healing Hearts is a a free bereavement support group specific to those grieving the loss of a loved one due to overdose or substance-use related harms.

Holding Hope Groups are peer-led support groups, offered at no cost, to families with loved ones living with addiction (substance use disorder) across Canada.

Starlings is a peer empowerment community for people impacted by a parent’s substance use.
