At the Faculty of Environmental Design End of Year Review, several proposals for EVDS 702 projects were discussed and juried, and the following projects were selected:
Palliser Complex Redevelopment Concepts and Environmental Plan Develop concept plans and redevelopment options for this 600 000 ft2 downtown commercial development (One Palliser Square office building, Town Centre retail, the Calgary Tower, restaurant, Railway Station, public space and green areas, and a 1200 stall parkade) including urban design plans, architectural and other design concepts, environmental plans and strategies (including energy management and solid waste practices) to make this complex a high quality destination and City focal point and improve its environmental performance.
A Sustainable Student Residence at the University of Alberta in Edmonton Develop concept plans and design alternatives for a 407 bed residence on the University of Alberta campus that will address program requirements and reduce energy consumption. This may include urban and building related aspects such as materials selection and life-cycle assessment, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, utilizing native plants for landscaping, use of storm water containment as a landscaping component, consideration of ISO 14000 certification standards for the building's environmental system, corporate and urban environmental management, and consideration of possible linkages between manufacturing, waste production and management.
Highland Park - Inner City Sustainable Suburb Investigate how intensification pressures can be used to help this inner-city area become sustainable (this may include public transportation plans, open space plans, long-term eco-system options (including storm water management), commercial and residential development options, and planning processes) and develop conceptual plans for this northwest Calgary neighbourhood (McKnight Boulevard and Centre Street North).
Antelope Creek Ranch: Promoting Sustainable Ranching in the Grasslands of Alberta Develop a comprehensive communications and interpretive plan for the Antelope Creek Ranch (a 5,500 acre model ranch located in the dry mixed grass prairie west of Brooks, Alberta) that will outline a variety of mechanisms for developing and delivering education and awareness programs and information concerning best management practices demonstrated at the ranch.
At the beginning of Fall Term, project teams will be formed and detailed project proposals will be prepared by the teams. Please see the Faculty Course Outlines for the EVDS 702 Framework.
