Education

Yusuke has extensive work experiences in both his academic and professional careers. His undergraduate thesis project was for reaction analysis of an up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) process for wastewater treatment by a numerical model. During his master's program, his research topic was towards biomass gasification using biomass-derived ash as the catalyst, which showed that their ashes could improve the effectiveness and reactivity of the gasification. After the completion, he has worked at HOYA GROUP Optics Division as a development and design engineer of melting furnace for optical glasses. One of his major achievements in the company is developing a novel coarse-melting furnace and establishing the operating conditions for the commercial utilization as a leading engineer for the project by involving all the development processes (from lab-scale experiments, prototype-plant testing, scale-up design, to construction supervision for the commercial plants), whose furnaces have contributed to reduction in the production costs of specified kinds of optical glasses by nearly 40%. They also gained two patents on the invention. His current project topic in this program is being focused on fabricating solid sorbents for post-combustion CO2 capture.
