Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Prep Camp
If you're thinking of becoming a lifeugard or swim instructor, this camp is for you: Swimmers will be introduced to lifeguard rescue and first aid skills. Have fun with rescue tubes and other lifeguard tools. This camp will also provide you with an opportunity to review your swimming skills and gain added insight on your strokes. Instructors will give an orientation to the Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor programs. For those eligible, Step 1 of the WSI certification process can be attempted.
Private Swimming Lessons - Child
Working with a certified water safety instructor, children will work on skills in the Red Cross Swim Kids or Preschool Program. This one-on-one experience can be adapted to a child’s individual skills and abilities.
Private Swimming Lessons - Child Adapted
Working with a certified water safety instructor, children with a variety of needs will work on items from the Red Cross Adapted Swim programs. Instructors will work one-on-one with children and their families to provide a fun and safe learning environment.

Learn proper swimming, biking and running technique from highly trained coaches. We have spin bikes for those who do not have a road bike and trainer. Training develops your aerobic and anaerobic systems to give you a good base for all sports. You will work with other youth at your level, with progression from start up, all the way to national team level training. The goal will be to have you ready to compete in The Kids of Steel Triathlon Series if you’re interested. This program welcomes athletes of all level.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm-6:45pm are bike and run sessions @ Cycle Centre on the track level of Fitness Centre
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00pm-8:30pm are swim sessions @ the UofC Aquatic Centre

Starfish 4-12 months
This is an introductory class is for babies and their parent or caregiver. The goal of this orientation to water class is to experience buoyancy, movement, entries, songs and play in the water. To enter this level, your child must be 4-12 months and be able to hold their head up.
Duck 12-24 months
This class is for older babies, toddlers and their parent or caregiver. Toddlers build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play.
Sea Turtle 24-36 months
This class is for toddlers and their parent or caregiver. Toddlers build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play. This is a great transitional class preparing your little swimmer for lessons on their own.
Sea Otter 3-6yrs
Sea Otter is an un-parented class, children will be with the instructor at all times. Toddlers develop independence and build confidence in this transitional class. They will experience the water on their own for the first time through games, songs and active water play.
Salamander 3-6 yrs
Salamander is an un-parented class, children will be with the instructor at all times. Preschoolers actively learn new swimming skills including assisted floats and glides through games and songs. Fun includes learning to jump into chest deep water.
Sunfish is an un-parented class, children will be with the instructor at all times. Preschoolers will work on stroke and skills progressions. Learning also focuses on good judgment in, on and around the water, and entries and floats in deep water.
Crocodile is an un-parented class, children will be with the instructor at all times. Preschoolers start independent glides and kicking in deep water. Endurance is built through increasing distance for front and back swims.
Whale is an un-parented class, children will be with the instructor at all times. Children learn to swim independently and participate in team games. Distance will be increased and skills improved in front and back swims. They also learn about throwing assists to help another person in the water.
This entry level provides orientation to water and pool area, and introduces floats and glides with kicks. Children build their endurance by improving distance.
This level helps build skills in front and back swims. Children are introduced to deep water activities and proper use of a personal flotation device. Endurance is built on flutter kicking with assisted glides.
This level provides introduction to front crawl, and lays foundation for making wise choices on where and when to swim. Diving is introduced and children will work on floats and changing direction. Endurance in achieved by building strength in flutter kick and a 15 meter swim.
The front crawl, back glide and shoulder roll for back crawl are further developed. Children work on kneeling dives, surface support and developing a greater sense of self safety by understanding their own limits. Endurance is built through a 25 metre swim.
Back crawl is introduced, along with sculling skills and whip kick on the back. Children try stride dives and receive an introduction to safe boating skills. Endurance is developed through dolphin kick and a 50 metre swim.
Front and back crawl continue to be refined as the elementary backstroke is newly introduced. Children are also introduced to safety on ice, elementary rescue of others with throwing assists, treading water and the front dive. Endurance is built through a 75 metre swim.
This level builds on skills and endurance for front crawl, back crawl and elementary back stroke and introduces whip kick on the front. Children learn about airway and breathing obstructions, and participate in treading water for increasing endurance. Endurance is built through timed treading water and a 150-metre swim.
This level provides introduction to breaststroke, feet first surface dives and rescue entries. Children learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, and the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults. Endurance is built through dolphin kick and a 300-metre swim.
Front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke continue to be refined. Children are encouraged to try combining different strokes and kicks for fitness. They also work on head-first shallow dives and standing dives and learn about wise choices, peer influences and self-rescue from ice. Endurance is built through a 400-metre swim.
This level features further refinement of strokes, and the introduction of sidestroke. Children learn about sun safety, rescue of others from ice, and head-first and feet-first shallow dives. Endurance is built using dolphin kick and a 500-metre swim.

Homeschool Swimming Level 1 & 2
This weekday class offers an introduction to swimming for homeschool children. They will learn floats and glides and increase their comfort in water.
Homeschool Swimming Level 3 & 4
This weekday class gives homeschool children a chance to increase their swimming abilities. Swimmers begin to learn front crawl and diving. Distance swim will progress towards 25 meters.
Homeschool Swimming Level 5 & 6
During this twice a week class swimmers will begin to perfect their front crawl. Back crawl and breast stroke will also be introduced. Distance swims will increase to 50-75 meters.
Homeschool Swimming Level 7 & 8
In this class, homeschool children will increase their endurance and skills in a variety of strokes. Water safety skills will include hypothermia and airway obstructions. Distance swims will be between 150 and 300 meters.
Homeschool Swimming Level 9 & 10
Homeschool students will refine, front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke and elementary back stroke. Side stroke will also be introduced. Distance swims will be 500 meteres. Water safety skills will include ice safety and self-rescues.
Homeschool Teen Swim Workout
This class will provide the platform for homeschool students to bring their swimming to the next level. Swimmers will improve their techniques and endurance through drills and workouts. Students will learn how to plan and execute a swim workout.
