Calling all psyched about science girls! Need something fantastic to do on your Saturdays from 9am - 12pm? This is the place for you! Learn about science, engineering, and technology in a super fun, all-girl, environment. Instructors will lead you through several exciting sessions of hands-on projects that will leave you craving more science! This club is a great way for your child to interact with other girls while meeting multiple curricular requirements in STEM for Grades 2 - 4. Get on your lab coats and get ready for some fun!

Kids Applied Science and Engineering Club

Learn about science, engineering, and technology in a super fun, environment. Early Minds

Entering Grades 1 - 2

Start discovering science in everything around you! Dissect owl pellets, build simple machines, travel back in time to uncover the mystery of fossils and have fun learning about chemical reactions and colour coding robots. Campers will explore and investigate the exciting world of STEM through games, stories and experiments. Get on your lab coats and get ready for some fun!

*Please note: Early Minds A, B and C are all the same camp. They all contain owl pellet dissections, fossil creation and the same activity themes, though the projects within each theme will vary. Staff are different in each camp.

Energy Engineering

Entering Grades 3 - 9

How can you power a city's homes and vehicles using only clean energy? This fun-filled week will have you investigating how scientists and engineers are using technology to produce different forms of renewable energy such as, hydro, wind, thermal and solar power. Campers will use this knowledge to design and build their own energy efficient city through hands-on activities and innovative challenges. Come get excited about engineering as a future career as you get those circuits firing while designing, building and powering a metropolis!

Engineering 101

Entering Grades 3 - 9

Ever wonder what it’s like to be an engineer? Come join Engineering 101 and be an engineer for a week! Spend a week learning about the exciting opportunities in engineering and experiencing what engineers do at the University of Calgary. This camp will explore many fascinating topics including the engineering design process, forming innovative solutions and experimentation with the building blocks behind 3D printing. From concept generation to prototype development, campers will use creativity in exploring and solving problems that can make a difference in the world. Come join us and get excited about engineering as a future career as you get out your thinking caps and become scientific minds in engineering!

Entering Grades 3 - 9

Spend a week learning about software engineering and electronics through inventive solutions and exploration of computer software programs, circuit designs, robotics and application to real-life scenarios. Improve your problem solving skills in this super-fun environment full of hands-on activities and challenges like LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robotics. Get ready to plug-in for a quest into the world of tech and gadgets that will leave you charged-up for more!

Is your child looking to optimize their performance in coding? Campers will have the opportunity to become innovative coders and explore the foundations of digital literacy, coding and programming. They will learn to develop their understanding of logic, computational thinking, artificial intelligence and universal coding languages. Campers will dive into programs like Scratch Jr. developed by MIT Media Lab to code their own game, TinkerCAD to develop their understanding of 3D printing principles and Minecraft to enhance their problem solving skills by creating their own automated landscape. Join us this summer to help kick-start your programming career!

Is your child looking to optimize their performance in coding? If you are new to Minecraft®, this club will be perfect to get you into this wonderful open world. They will learn to develop their understanding of logic, computational thinking and universal coding languages in Minecraft®. Entering Grades 5 - 9

Has your child begun to outgrow puzzles and is ready to unlock the next level? Escape into an immersive adventure game camp full of puzzles, clues, riddles and mystery that will put problem solving skills to the test. In this collaborative, strategy-based camp, campers will learn how to create and solve a series of puzzles in order to accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. Through these elaborate daily challenges, campers will take a crack at engineering a real escape room each week. Join us at Engscape Room camp and discover your inner code breaker!

Gaming Minds Cup

Grades 4 - 6

Are you looking to break onto the local gaming scene and see how your skills stack up against other competitors? Minds in Motion would like to present the Gaming Minds Cup eSports Tournament! This tournament will give players the ability to showcase their talents over the course of four weeks. Featuring some of gaming's best titles in Mario Kart 8™ and Super Smash Bro Ultimate™ on Nintendo Switch ™ and Minecraft™ and Fortnite™ in our Computer Laboratory! The tournament's top gamer of each game will be awarded a prize at the end of the journey! The Gaming Minds Cup will take place in a safe and secure environment monitored by University of Calgary staff. Join us and improve your gaming skills, meet new friends and experience the glory of defeating your competitors!

Girls Technology

Guided Gaming

Minds in Motion is providing a new, supervised gaming experience for youth in Grades 4 - 8. In this controlled online environment, kids can just be kids and have fun in a safe space where an instructor will provide baseline instruction and demonstrations for up and coming online games. In this time of isolation, it's important to continue to build connections with one another. Join our community of gamers where kids work collaboratively to overcome obstacles, get creative, achieve goals and learn new skills all in a safe and controlled gaming environment. Tech literacy is an essential skill in our world today. Guided Gaming fosters an environment that builds confidence and familiarity with a variety of technology. Kids will develop gamer lingo, keyboarding skills and learn the gaming code of conduct all while socializing with their peers.

Professional Development

Minds in Motion is offering free, online Professional Development Sessions for Teachers, Pre-Service Teachers and At-Home Educators looking to deepen their understanding of Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) no matter what curriculum you may be teaching. Sessions will include: how to do STEM unplugged, what is Design Thinking, creating Digitally Literate students and what does AI look like in the classroom. A certificate is provided after completion of each virtual session.

The Schulich Community Robotics Program

The Schulich Community Robotics Program (SCRP) is managed by Minds in Motion and the University of Calgary Robotics Association (UCRA). We coach FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams, mentor an all-girls FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, deliver low-cost robotics and programming workshops for kids 5-17 years old, and are active in the local robotics community. All of our programs and events are 100% designed, planned, and delivered by volunteers thanks to the fantastic in-kind support from our amazing partners!

Virtual Coding Minds - Minecraft Spring Break Camp

Grades 4 - 6

Is your child looking to optimize their performance in coding? If you are new to Minecraft®, this online camp will be perfect to get you into this wonderful open world. Kids will have the opportunity to become innovative coders and explore the foundations of digital literacy, coding and programming in an online environment. They will learn to develop their understanding of logic, computational thinking and universal coding languages in Minecraft®. We will focus on everything from modding the game to learning about redstone circuits and beyond to create your own automated farming systems. Join us virtually this spring break to dive deeper into the world of Minecraft®!
