Fly Tying 101

Learn to tie your own flies this winter to prepare for the summer fishing season.  This is a two evening series, which will teach you to tie different types of classic flies such as the wholly bugger, hares ear nymph and elk haired caddis.  Have the thrill of catching a fish on your own flies this summer.
Prerequisites: none. All fly tying equipment will be provided.

Get into Fly Fishing - Teens

Southern Alberta is world-renowned for great fly fishing. This 3-day instructional camp will introduce you to casting techniques, proper fly selection, knot tying, how to read the water and all about fish habitat. Each day we'll head out to different locations in and out of the city limits. Prerequisite: none. Includes: instructor, transportation, waders, PFDs, rods (if requested).

A. Fly Fishing 101 - Theory

Spend a few hours learning the basics of fly fishing theory and casting before you try it on the water. Our guides will teach you everything from setting up the rod to finding the best spots to fish. Then we'll head outside to work on the perfect cast—we'll even bring all the gear. Prerequisite: none. Includes: instructor, fishing gear.  

B. Try Fly Fishing

Whether you're new to fishing, or have experience spin casting, this day trip will give you a chance to try out the art of fly fishing at a beautiful mountain destination. You'll practice the skills you learned in A. Fly Fishing 101 under the watchful eye of our experienced guide. Prerequisite: A. Fly Fishing 101 recommended, valid Alberta Sportfishing License. Includes: guide/instructor, fishing gear.

Oldman River Fishing Weekend

Join us for a weekend of fly fishing and camping on the upper Oldman River and Dutch Creek. This major drainage offers outstanding fishing with beautiful scenery and classic high-country cutthroats. We'll spend a day fishing each of the waterways, and enjoy fish tales and fly-tying around the campfire in the evening. This remote fishing trip is great for new or experienced anglers and families. Learn about fly selection, basic aquatic insects, trout diet, basic casting and how to read the water to find trout. Prerequisite: A. Fly Fishing 101 recommended, valid Alberta Sportfishing License. Includes: guide/instructor, fishing gear.
