Youth Field Hockey

Next Session will be Fall 2023.

Indoor field hockey is considered a different sport from traditional outdoor field hockey and uses different sticks, balls and team sizes.  Played on a hard surface with boards, it is excellent for developing quick reflexes and hand eye coordination and makes for a thrilling game!

Participants will focus on learning and refining their indoor skills through fun drills and mini games. There will also be opportunities for tactical development and game play.

Mouth guards and shin guards are mandatory. As well, all participants are required to provide their own indoor field hockey sticks, or may rent them through Field Hockey Alberta.
The program at the University is partnered with Calgary Junior Field Hockey and Field Hockey Alberta. Participants will also be required to submit program/membership fees through Field Hockey Alberta registration portal:
https://www.rampregistrations.com/login?v3=a71e044b

Important Information for Participants:
Participants must not attend class if they are sick, or a member of their household is sick, even if symptoms resemble a mild cold. Symptoms to look for include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell.

Field Hockey

Fall 2022 registration starts on August 15.

The University of Calgary Women's Field Hockey Club offers an opportunity for those who want to enhance their field hockey skills. Players who are new to the sport are also welcome. The game is fast-paced and exciting when played indoors. Participants will get an opportunity to train and develop their indoor skills. There will also be some opportunities for some tactical and game play/scrimmages. Mouth guards and shin guards are mandatory. All participants are required to provide their own indoor field hockey stick, mouth guard, shin guards, and gloves.

The program at the University is partnered with the Astros Field Hockey Club. University students who are members of other local clubs may be able to join the University program and train, but due to league policies, they will need a letter from their club to grant permission to train with the Astros Club at the University. There may be an additional fee to cover the cost of supplies purchased by the Astros Club to run the program (examples of these costs include:  balls, pylons, pinnies, tape, etc.). There is also an opportunity to play in the local ladies' league (payment and registration for this is separate). Please contact Verla Wong at astrosfh@telusplanet.net if you require more info. on any of the above.
