Veterinary Camp

Ever thought of becoming a veterinarian? Do you have a love for animals big and small? Come to the University of Calgary’s Veterinary Medicine Camp! This week long camp will introduce you to the many things vets do including hands on work with dogs and horses.  Provided by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Broadway Bound

Broadway Bound is back with an encore for our cast of future Broadway stars. Our Tony-worthy camp is now two weeks and includes a final performance on the last day for family and friends, starring our campers! We will also lift the curtain to give the kids a look behind the scenes, learning about costume, make-up, and set design in the real world of music and theatre. Between curtain calls, healthy activities such as swimming and outdoor games will keep their minds and bodies in motion. Break a leg!

Claymation

Unleash your inner Tim Burton at The Director's Cut by creating your own stop motion animation film. You and your film crew will create and design sets, backgrounds and characters.

DC Pro Advanced Film Making Workshop

Young filmakers will collabortatively create a 15-20 minute short films in this Director's Cut Camp. They will create a concept, storyboard & script using advanced digital screenwriting tools, lighting kits, advanced camera techniques, boom microphones and 1080 HD cameras.

Dinos Basketball

The Dinos Basketball Camps are the perfect place to improve your skills, get active and compete against other players around Calgary. Participants will learn basketball fundamentals and techniques, conditioning methods and team-play tactics.

Dinos Football

The primary goal of this skills camp is to instruct the fundamentals of football in a safe, fun, and rewarding environment. All participants will receive individual skill analysis, instruction and coaching.

Dinos Track and Field

Stand on the podium this year by enrolling in a Dinos Summer Track & Field Camp! Participants will be challenged both mentally and physically through many skill-specific drills in an competitive and encouraging environment, while training with other local athletes. Participants will experience first class coaching from the 2013 Women's CIS National Champions and consistently ranked Men's track team. This is the place to be if you want to pursue Track & Field at a higher level!

Dinos Volleyball

You’ll get in shape for the volleyball season with jump training and strength sessions, advanced team play and tactics as well as development of your individual skills. Off the court, you’ll improve your fitness level and get nutrition strategies for peak performance.

Early Mind

Start discovering science in the world around you! Be an archaeologist, build a dam or enter the microscopic world of bacteria. This program gives students entering grades 1 and 2 in the fall an early start to science and engineering.  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Game Development Level 1

This two-week, 60-hour summer camp, is the first, introductory camp that teaches students the programming fundamentals to build computer games. This is not a camp for students wishing to play computer games, rather this is a camp for students with a strong desire to build computer games.
This involves learning how to program which includes the process of designing, writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining the source code of the computer games that students will be building.

Restricted to students age 13 - 16.

Camp provided by Continuing Education.

Game Development Level 2

This two-week, 60 hour summer camp, is the second, intermediate camp that teaches students the programming fundamentals to build computer games. This is not a camp for students wishing to play computer games, rather this is a camp for students with a strong desire to build computer computer games from scratch.

This involves learning how to program which includes the process of designing, writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining the source code of the computer games that students will be building. Restricted to students age 13 - 16.

Game Development Level 3

This two-week, 60-hour summer camp, is the third, and most advanced camp that teaches students the programming skills to build video games. This is not a camp for students wishing to play video games, rather this is a camp for students with a strong desire to build computer video games.

This is a project-based camp, students will be involved in designing, writing, testing, debugging, and maintaining the source code for computer games that they will be building. Restricted to students age 13 - 16.

I Wanna Rock

Unleash your inner Rock Star at The Director's Cut and rock out on your terms. Film crews will be mentored by real film makers to select their favourite song, and then story board, location scout and shoot their music videos in eye catching HD.

Int Natural Science

This program is for students entering grades 5 or 6 in the fall who enjoy biology, chemistry and earth sciences. Spend a day at Fish Creek Provincial Park participating in the field based ecology program, perform exciting dissections and much more. This fun-filled week will have you looking at the world in a whole new way! Note that the Intermediate Natural Science and Intermediate Physical Science and Engineering programs are different. Participants will get a chance to work in University of Calgary classrooms and laboratories, and they will be taught by University of Calgary students in the faculties of Science, Engineering & Education.

A portion of the activities are based on the science curriculum for the grade that your child is entering, so they will get a good review & head-start on the science lessons they will see in the next year.  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Explore the physical world around you! Join an engineering team, build a robot using LEGO Mindstorms® robotics, play detective using chemical tests, or play with the physics of sound through beatboxing.  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Calling all psyched science girls! Learn about science, engineering, and technology in a fun all-girl camp environment. Past projects have included constructing towers, making gum, and strawberry DNA extraction.  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Jr Natural Science

Do you enjoy the outdoors and learning how things work?  Choose Natural Science Camp! Visit the University of Calgary Kananaskis Field Station, do chemistry experiments, make recycled paper, try your hand at dissection, or build "bioluminescent buddies" using simple electricity.  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Jr Physical Science

Kananaskis Explorers

Head for the mountains every day for a new adventure! Kids spend one day rafting in Calgary and the other four days they head out to Kananaskis Country to try new outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, and wilderness skills. Note: A bike is required for this camp (not on the first day) and campers must be comfortable riding a bike.

Keiki Longboard

Get outside and ride the City’s pathways on a longboard this summer! Keiki Longboarding Camp will show you the ins and outs of this popular sport. This year the camp is divided into 101 and 201 offered on different weeks throughout the summer. In 101 riders will learn the fundamentals of longboarding including foot stance, balance, pushing, and foot breaking. 201 will build upon that foundation by reinforcing those skills and working on cornering, body position, and hills. Both will have an emphasis on safety, etiquette, the rules of the road, history of the sport, and equipment. Skills will be taught on flat surfaces but will progress to hills as campers ride a variety of paths, visit cool Calgary locations and participate in games and activities such as swimming.
101 Prerequisite: no experience required.
201 Prerequisite: riders must have completed 101 or have previous riding experience.

Kinder Kamp (Afternoon)

Need a place where your little ones can expel some of that never-ending energy? Kinder Kamp is a half-day camp designed for kids about to take the big step into Kindergarden. They’ll enjoy games, lessons and activities inspired by our award-winning Mini U camps. Never bored, Kinder Kampers will enjoy a balance of indoor activities and outdoor fun!

Krank Factory

Get stoked and kick up some dust on awesome trails this spring! Krank Factory 101 will introduce kids to the fundamentals of mountain biking, braking, balance, gearing, and basic obstacle riding. Krank Factory 201 will help the experienced dirt junkies master skills such as body positioning, gearing for hill climbing, cornering, and riding stunts. The first session will be spent on a local Calgary trail where kids will learn where they can ride for free all summer long. The last three sessions will be spent on a variety of Kananaskis trails. Participants will be placed into groups on the first day.
101 Prerequisite: comfortable riding a bike and eager for off road surfaces. 201 Prerequisite: confidence riding off-road terrain (single/double-track) & eagerness to progress riding skills.

Kreative Kids

Grab your brush and get ready for a stroke of genius. This visual-arts camp is designed to unleash campers’ inner artists, exploring their creative sides through drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. Experienced instructors offer young Picassos, Michelangelos and Carrs a supportive environment to encourage any creative endeavor! This two-week camp culminates with a gallery showcase for friends and family on the last day. Healthy outdoor games and swimming will help keep the creative juices flowing. Campers can find their muse with trips to the Glenbow Museum and Colour-Me-Mine. Dust off that old painter’s hat and register today!

Masters Speed Camp Canadian

Improve your speed skating skills and enjoy a great week training at the Olympic Oval. Camp includes one or two daily, on-ice sessions, speed skating instruction in long track, seminars and training exercises. The week will end with a mini competition.

MediCamp

Sign up for a dose of fun, STAT! Our MediCampers will explore the fascinating world of medicine through hands-on activities. This one-week camp will involve learning about sling/splint making, bacteria analysis, blood transfusions and so much more. MegaVenture

Activity, variety, and fun all in one! During this popular camp, kids can try a number of different outdoor activities within the city limits. Daily adventures may include hiking, wall climbing, biking, swimming, rafting down the Bow River, playing games, and visiting kid-friendly places in Calgary. Note: A bike is required for this camp (not on the first day) and campers must be able to ride a bike.

Mini Brick Builders

LE-GO of that video game controller and let’s get building! Back by popular demand, Mini Brick Builders has doubled its camp offerings this year, but is sure to fill up fast. Our budding builders will design their own cites, machines, vehicles, rockets, buildings, spaceships, and anything else their imagination can conjure up. Did we mention robots? We have those too! Campers will program their own robots using Lego MindstormsTM. Our one-week camp will include building towers that can sustain earthquakes and bridges that can hold your camper’s own weight. They’ll even get to create their own stop-motion Brick Film. This camp isn’t just another brick in the wall, with its great balance of fun classroom projects and exciting team activities outside.

Mini Musketeers

En Garde! Mini Musketeers is a brand-new offering this summer. Our young swashbucklers will learn the fundamentals of fencing, including how to lunge, parry, and score an attack in supervised matches, all in a safe environment. It will be easy to sharpen their skills with small class sizes, one-on-one professional instruction and equipment provided. This one-week camp will provide a balance of fencing, fun classroom instruction and activities, as well as racquet sports and two days of swimming.

Mini Pro Golfers

Fore! Fun and learning will be par for the course at this brand-new camp. Campers will be hitting the links daily to learn from one of our experienced golf instructors. Not a golfer? No worries, Tiger – Mini University will rent golf clubs for those who don’t have their own. This week-long camp will also include exciting team-based activities to mix it up. Mini Sport

Ready, set, go! Mini Sport is a fun team and game-based camp focusing on the world of sport. Campers will practice and play a variety of sports, games, and great activities in a supportive, non-competitive environment. This fast-paced one-week camp will help participants understand the body’s movement (Kinesiology), abilities (Sports Performance), and fuel (Nutrition). Campers will use the U of C’s world-class athletic facilities, including the Aquatic Centre and Racquet Centre. They will also learn about famous Canadian athletes during a trip to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, a camp favorite, or hit the lanes for an afternoon of bowling. Game, set, and match!

Mini U

In Mini U 101 & 102, the fun-loving little campers will explore, learn, and engage in a variety of activities and lessons inspired by our other Mini University camps. This one-week schedule preps campers for a full day of fun and excitement away from home, practicing the routine for the upcoming school year. Kids will experience fun classroom activities and lessons, and will venture outdoors for more games and learning. If that wasn’t enough, we have the Butterfield Acres trip, which is a great way to learn about farm animals such as pigs, bunnies, and goats … oh my!

Mountain Biking Expedition

Kananaskis has some of the best mountain bike terrain in the world! Whether you are new to the sport or keen to develop your skills, you will have the time of your life! Through a combination of cross-country and freeride skill development, you will learn about and practice body positioning, gearing, cornering, and maneuvering on trails. Trail selection, bike maintenance, and outdoor skills are also introduced. This expedtion is operated out of a base campsite where riders return each night.

Multi-Racquet Camp

U of C Racquet Camps are fun and interactive day camps led by experiecned instructors. Kids will get exposure to racquet sports through drills and games, while learning skills and techniques.

Olympic Oval Power Skating

Get ready to ace evaluations! Improve your ability to play better hockey or ringette and work on your stride, agility, balance and coordination. Our instructors are current National Team and World Cup medallists. The Olympic Oval is home to some of the world's best skating experts!

Packs and Pixels

In a flash we’ll have kids thinking about how to capture amazing photographs of their trips adventuring in the backcountry. They will learn the ins-and-outs of their cameras and how to shoot a variety of different photo styles including action, macro, nature, landscape, and portraits. We will also practice and teach “Leave No Trace” ethics, and discuss how to safely adventure in the mountains. We spend time on the last day teaching the basics of photo editing and the campers will get to work together to create a visual log from their experiences, which they will present to the group!

Rafting Expedition

Go whitewater rafting and spend three days on one of the most popluar whitewater rivers close to Calgary! Learn about paddle strokes, water safety, river reading, and navigation through rapids from an experienced raft guide. We'll be heading to the Red Deer River for our whitewater excitement. Note: river choice is subject to change based on water levels at the time.

Reel Film and Make your Own Commercial

Unleash your inner Spielberg at The Director's Cut by creating a blockbuster short film. Work in small film crews to write, produce, act in and edit a blockbuster or commercial film under the guidance of a local film maker.

Science Trek

This hands-on camp is designed to immerse kids entering grades 2-8 in the scientific fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Criminal Science. Campers will learn how to take fingerprints, participate in chemistry experiments, study organisms in their natural habitat, and fire off rockets! This two-week camp will expand campers’ minds through the fascinating world of science in REAL scientists’ laboratories! Our trips to the Telus Spark Science Center and Weaselhead Park are must-see adventures, so come and join us this summer for Mini U’s Science Trek camp!

Squash Camp

Squash is a fun fast paced game that will keep your kids active all summer long. This week long camp will allow your child to learn and practice skills in a social enviroment. Drills and games are tailored to each participant's ability whether they are new to the sport or trying to develop their skills. Not only will your child get to play squash every day, throughout the week kids will have the opportunity to enjoy fun outdoor activities promoting social interaction and team building.

Sr All Girls Science

This camp is led by a dynamic duo of female instuctors who are University of Calgary students in the Science, Engineering and Education Faculties. They will take you through an exciting week of hands-on projects that will leave you craving more technology!  Provided by the Schulich School of Engineering.

Summer Speed and Masters Camp

Improve your speed skating skills and enjoy a great week of ‘summer camp fun’ at the Olympic Oval, including one or two daily, on-ice sessions, long track and short track speed skating instruction and indoor and outdoor games and activities. The week will end with a mini competition.

SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CAMP

This competitive swim camp will give each athlete the edge they need to start the new season on the right foot. The camp will consist of a technical focus directed to sculling and use of body, with "out of the box" creative development. Corresponding conditioning training is also a major focus.

Tennis Camp

Our week long tennis camps involve fun and challenging games and drills for beginner to intermediate players. Our outdoors tennis courts let participants soak up the sun while they learn and develop tennis skills as well as participate in other social outdoor activities.

Thrill of the Catch

Discover the thrill of fishing! Each day kids visit a new lake or pond around the city or in Kananaskis Country in their quest to catch a fish. Kids get a chance to learn about fishing techniques, the best places to find fish, how to identify species of fish, and they also learn about wildlife and the outdoors. Some fishing holes can only be found by hiking to them, so kids should be ready for a fun fishing adventure! Please note: fishing rods are not supplied.

Top Blade Camps

Learn how to train, skate and compete like an elite athlete at the Olympic Oval, home of the "Fastest Ice in the World (TM)" and Canada's National Training Centre for the National speed skating teams. Athletes considering joining the Oval Program are strongly encouraged to attend the Top Blade Camps. The Top Blade High Performance Camps are designed to expose top-level provincial skaters to the training programs at the Olympic Oval. Skaters train with the best speed skating coaches in the country. It allows junior athletes an opportunity to experience what the National Training Centre has to offer. Junior athletes experience what National and National Development Team athletes train for every day. It is the launching pad for a high performance sports career in speed skating.

Tots on Treks

You’re never too young to appreciate the outdoors! This camp specifically designed for Grade 1’s will introduce activities such as hiking, investigating critters, and learning fun facts about nature. Kids will also get to make crafts, swim, and visit fun Calgary locations. Note: No bike is required.

Tour de Calgary

It’s like the Tour de France for kids, but way more fun—and in Calgary! Kids spend the day biking along Calgary’s extensive pathways, visiting kid-friendly places around the city, swimming, and playing games. Grades 2-4 cycle about 5 to 15 kilometres each day and Grades 5-7 cycle about 5 to 25 kilometres per day. Although campers will burn a lot of energy and sleep well each night, these distances are very achievable for campers! Note: A bike is required for this camp, and campers must be comfortable riding it.

Toy Stop Motion Animation

Unleash your inner Tim Burton at The Director's Cut by creating your own stop motion animation film. You and your film crew will create and design sets, backgrounds and characters using your own toys.

Wilderness Survivor

Do you think it would be fun to be ‘Survivor Man’? Here is your chance to learn about wilderness survival techniques, building survival kits, starting a fire with minimal supplies, and building shelters! Finally, you will get to get to use your skills and spend a night in the outdoors in a shelter you will build! Prerequisite: none.

World of Watersports

Experience a variety of water sports, including canoeing, rafting, recreational kayaking and the all-new Stand-Up-Paddle Boarding. What better way to spend those hot summer days than having fun in the water, meeting new people, and learning new skills. Basic water safety techniques will also be introduced. Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 50m while wearing a life jacket.

Soar and More

Interested in flying? Learn about the exciting world of windsports including hang gliding, paragliding, and traction kiting. Through classroom and practical instruction, participants learn the basics of how to fly each of these crafts. the amount of time spent on each activity is wind-dependant and participants must be at least 5 feet tall and weigh 90 pounds. No experience necessary.

Climb On Outdoor!

Reach new heights- outdoors! Climb popular beginner routes each day such as Wasootch, Yamnuska Bluffs, and Heart Creek in Kananaskis Country. Have fun as you learn basic climbing skills including how to belay, climbing calls, climbing movement, and rappelling. Instructed by ACMG guides. No experience necessary.

Climb On!

Defy gravity, reach new heights, and learn lifelong team-building and communication skills! Kids spend half the day climbing indoors and head outside the other half to play games, swim, and visit kid-friendly places in the city. Note: A bike is required for this camp (not on the first day) and campers must be able to ride a bike.

Get into Kayaking

Learn to Kayak in this 3-day beginner teen day camp. An introductory pool class gets you warmed up for an afternoon of skill development on the river. Then, off to the Bow River for a day of moving water skills. Finish off with a tase of whitewater on a full day run from Ghost Dam to Cochrane (west of Calgary). Prerequisite: The ability to swim 25 m

Spring Break Camp

Kids have the chance to learn new skills, meet new friends, and have LOADS of fun during school spring break this year. Every day is jam-packed with activities such as snowshoeing, cross country skiing, wall climbing, swimming, snow shelter building, visiting cool Calgary locations and tons of outdoor games. Prerequisite: none.

Dinos Swimming

Our certified University of Calgary Swim Club coaches provide a technique-based program with a focus on all four strokes, starts and turns. Each day consists of two swim sessions (morning and afternoon).

Winter Break Camp

The winter holidays are all about having fun and enjoying the snow! If a week filled with a variety of great outdoor activities to get your kids outside sounds appealing, then this camp is the one! For the two days before and after January 1st, 2014, enjoy cross-country skiing, skating, and snowshoeing, alongside indoor adventures like climbing and swimming. There is something here for everyone and your kids will have great stories and new skills to share when they return to school!

Teen Canoeing Expedition

Welcome to the world of multi-day canoe tripping! Learn about paddle strokes, water safety, river reading, navigation on the river, and how to pack for a multi-day trip from an experienced canoe guide. Depending on water levels, canoeists will paddle the Milk, Lower Bow, or Middle Red Deer Rivers. No experience necessary.

Teen North Sask Extended Expedtion

End your summer with an amazing 5-day and 4-night canoe adventure! The first day will be spent on flat water new Rocky Mountain House, Alberta honing your paddling skills. Then head out for 4 days on the North Saskatchewan River and learn about canoe tripping, leave no trace, and more. No experience necessary.

Cochrane Summer Camps

Registration for summer camps start April 14
Build strong basic gymnastics skills in a safe environment, using all the apparatus in the Gymnastics Centre at Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Centre in Cochrane.

You will also enjoy crafts, scavenger hunts and play in the NEW indoor soccer field and basketball court.

After Care is available for parents requiring supervised care for their child following Check-out. The children will be supervised while participating in physical activities like soccer, floor hockey and scooter races, and quiet activities such as reading, colouring/drawing, watching videos and are also given the option for free play.
