Energy Engineering | Grades 3-9

Engage in a week of hands-on exploration where campers will investigate the technologies that harness hydro, wind, thermal, chemical, and solar power to fuel homes and vehicles. Dive into the evolution of energy tech as we chart a course towards a sustainable future! Campers will apply their knowledge to design and construct an energy-efficient city, and delve into robotics by designing and programming using LEGO SPIKE® robots. City Building

Entering Grades 2 – 4

Aspiring builders and city planners, join us at City Building  camp to pioneer the future of urban spaces! Created and led by the imaginative students at the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape, providing a unique and inspiring setting. Together, campers will unlock new skills to craft designs tailored for downtown cityscapes. Collaboratively, they'll employ various design techniques and planning methods, exploring materials, scales, and crafting models to bring their design ideas to life. Utilizing downtown Calgary as a full-scale laboratory, campers will draw inspiration from the vibrant cityscape, designing beautiful buildings and landscapes to create their very own downtown. Join us for a week of creativity and fun in the heart of Calgary!

Entering Grades 5 – 10

What does it take to build a great city? Aspiring architects and young urban visionaries interested in architecture and urbanism are invited to join our students from the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape in a collaborative exploration of this question. Design skills and knowledge will be developed through skill building and downtown exploration. Building on a shared experience of design and local community making, we explore new ways of collaborating and co-creating. Choosing a site in downtown Calgary, participants will be challenged to redesign an aspect of the city/public space and present a proposal to transform its function, appearance, accessibility, and other characteristics. We’ll seek inspiration right here, using downtown Calgary as a full-scale laboratory to explore, observe and design beautiful buildings, landscapes and envision future scenarios for urban spaces. Learn how to tackle complex problems using your design skills and start crafting your future career making Calgary the place you imagine it to be!

Coding Minds

Entering Grades 3 - 9

Is your child ready to enhance their coding skills? Our coding camp offers campers the chance to become innovative coders, delving into the foundations of digital literacy, coding, and programming. Through hands-on activities they will develop their understanding of logic, computational thinking, artificial intelligence and universal coding languages. Campers will utilize programs like Scratch to code their own games, TinkerCAD to grasp 3D printing principles, and Minecraft to enhance problem-solving by developing automated farms and redstone circuits! Join us this summer to kick-start your child's programming journey.

Coding Minds - Minecraft Club

Grades 4 - 6

Is your child looking to optimize their performance in coding? If you are new to Minecraft®, this club will be perfect to get you into this wonderful open world. Kids will have the opportunity to become innovative coders and explore the foundations of digital literacy, coding and programming. They will learn to develop their understanding of logic, computational thinking and universal coding languages in Minecraft®. We will focus on everything from modding the game to learning about redstone circuits and beyond. Join us to dive deeper into the world of Minecraft®!

Coding Minds Club

Grades 5- 7

Discover Design

Entering Grades 2 - 4

Is your child's architectural vision outgrowing this year's Lego kits? Encourage their creative potential in our design camp crafted and led by the inventive students of the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape. Young builders and aspiring city planners will learn foundational design skills to breathe life into their visionary ideas and will explore a spectrum of design techniques and planning methods, delving into materials, scales, and crafting models. Drawing inspiration from our evolving University of Calgary campus, they'll use it as a full-scale laboratory to observe and explore beautiful buildings and landscapes, ultimately crafting their own miniature city. Early Minds A, B and C | Grades 1-2 

Join us for a captivating week of scientific exploration! Campers will explore multiple fascinating areas of discovery by dissecting owl pellets, constructing simple machines, and unravelling the mysteries of fossils. Engage in the excitement of learning through observing chemical reactions and unleash your creativity as you program robots using bursts of colours. Campers will discover the different aspects of STEM through an immersive blend of games, captivating stories, hands-on experiments, and exciting activities. Engineering 101

Engineering 101 | Grades 3-9

Curious about the world of engineering? Join Engineering 101 and spend a week investigating what it means to be an engineer at the University of Calgary and beyond. Explore the different paths you can take with engineering and challenge yourself by tackling real-world problems with innovative solutions using your newly gained understanding of the engineering design process. Campers will get to experience the thrill of designing and programming their own LEGO® SPIKE® robot, will use 3D printing and immersive VR technology, and gain hands-on experience with different chemical reactions and materials.  Join us for a week of excitement and unleash your inner scientific mind in the thrilling realm of engineering.

Engscape Room

Entering Grades 5 - 9


Is your child ready to move beyond riddles and puzzles and take on a new challenge? Dive into an engaging adventure game camp where immersive puzzles, clues, riddles, and mysteries await, putting problem-solving skills to the test. In this collaborative and strategy-focused camp, participants will learn the art of creating and solving a series of puzzles with a specific goal in mind within a limited timeframe. Throughout the week, campers will tackle challenges, explore virtual escape rooms, and even try their hand at engineering a real escape game. Future Design Studio

Calling all Aspiring architects and urban visionaries to join Future Design Studio, a creative journey where you will innovate the future of city spaces in our world.  Led by the innovative students of the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape, this design camp is a unique opportunity for campers to uncover new skills and bring their visions to life. Campers will explore a variety of design techniques and planning methods, delving into materials, scales, and representations. From producing images to crafting models, they will learn how to express their ideas effectively. The University of Calgary's evolving campus and award-winning green buildings will serve as a full-scale laboratory, providing inspiration and opportunities to explore, observe, and design beautiful buildings, landscapes, and future scenarios for urban spaces. Building on shared interests in design and local community making, we explore new ways to co-create. Gaming Minds

Grades 5 - 9

Join us this summer to indulge your love for games and discover the art of game development by unleashing your Gaming-mind! Combining creativity and logic, design and develop your own games, both indoors and outdoors. Campers will explore the different areas of game development, from building and playing their own board games to learning the art of storyboarding, character design, and coding using game engines. Additionally, they'll have the chance to participate in outdoor activities, and will get to construct their own "Olympic" games. Aspiring gamers will use the design thinking process to prototype their creations and bring their imaginative ideas into reality!

GeoVenture

Entering Grades 2 - 7

Ready to explore Geography, its connection to the environment and our place in it? This camp goes beyond traditional maps, offering campers the chance to tackle real-world problems and understand the powerful forces of nature that shape our planet. Explore the technology behind mapping and navigation, including Google Earth and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Learn how cities are organized,  the choices animals make in selecting habitats, the reasons behind river flows, and spend time outside on a geocaching adventure, all within an interactive, hands-on atmosphere. Entering Grades 3-6 

Calling all girls! Looking to optimize your coding knowledge? Join us for this amazing week of coding! Learn the basics of coding logic and digital literacy, explore how AI works, create your own 3d models, and build and design your own games! Campers will gain experience with a variety of programs like scratch and tinker CAD while expanding their knowledge of computer technology. They will also dive into Minecraft to enhance their problem-solving skills by building Redstone contraptions and creating exciting mods! Join us this fall and enter the world of computer programming! Physics 101

Entering Grades 4 - 9

From investigating atoms  to exploring galaxies and experimenting with forces, this camp will have you discovering the wonders of Physics! This action-packed week will delve into astronomy, mechanics, electricity, and magnetism with exciting hands-on experiments and challenges. Campers will get the chance to work out of and see demonstrations in the University of Calgary's physics labs. Our future physicists will get a chance to visit the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory and learn about the world above.  Put on your best Tesla or Curie costume and come join us this summer at Physics 101!

Sky Science

Entering Grades 4 - 9

Join a journey to explore the world above with Sky Science Camp! Fire off rockets, design flying machines, and delve into the mysteries of gravitational forces and aerodynamics. Campers will have the thrilling opportunity to observe live demonstrations, learn from experts in the fields of physics and astrophysics.   Take a trip to and explore the wonders of the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory, where the University of Calgary trains the next generation of astrophysicists. STEMagic | Grades 3-6

Embark on a magical adventure with STEMagic, where science meets enchantment! Additionally, campers will become myth-busters, using science to confirm or debunk intriguing myths and urban legends. Young Entrepreneurs

Entering Grades 4 - 9

Are you an aspiring entrepreneur? Join us for an exploration of strategies for earning, saving, spending, and investing wisely. In this interactive and hands-on environment, campers will cultivate independence while developing essential life skills in leadership and responsibility. Dreaming of turning your interests into a business? Discover the art of crafting a  product and developing a business plan, enabling you to think like a true entrepreneur. As the week comes to a close, our young entrepreneurs will have the chance to pitch their product, show off their advertisements and present their business plans to fellow campers on Friday. Join us and catch the spirit of entrepreneurship as you embark on a journey to nurture your business acumen!

Calgary Sightseers

Don’t want to spend another summer sitting around, bored?  Join a group of like-minded youth who want to explore and see something different every day.  A mix of arts, food, culture, outdoor activities, and sightseeing, this is the summer vacation you always wished you had but never got around to planning.  From mural walks to outdoor adventures to sightseeing some of Calgary’s staples, fill your camera roll with something different every day.

Miranda Krogstad is the Instructor for this unique and engaging camp.

Miranda is a spoken word poet and educator who uses her words to empower students of all ages and walks of life. Teaching life skills including self-confidence, self-expression, and community-building, she has performed workshops in dozens of cities across Western Canada. Outside of the formal educational setting, Krogstad is an advocate for positivity and love in the spoken word community and beyond, performing on subject matter from mental health awareness to gender equality. Krogstad was a member of the 2016 national wild card team, a two-time Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, a Calgary Arts Development Grant Recipient, and a participant in the Banff Centre International Spoken Word Program. She has since founded the organization YYSpeak to promote and support Calgarian spoken word poets and events.

Mini Dungeon Masters

Looks like somebody rolled a natural 20 on their luck check when looking for a camp to enrol their adventurer in this summer! This camp will introduce the skills and terminology kids will need to play Dungeons & Dragons®* both as a Dungeon Master (the person who leads the game) or as a player (the people who the DM leads). Campers will go adventuring in their imagination by exploring how to build interesting characters, a believable world for them to exist in, and their own lore while adventuring with other creative campers. A highlight of this camp involves designing and painting a 3D printed miniature of a character from Hero Forge®*. No experience is required but an openness to learn and a positive attitude is helpful on the journey. So grab your explorer's bag, some food, and a bottle of sunscreen because we are questing for dragons! Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Speak Up

Learn how to be a better speaker, performer, presenter with a week of hands-on activities and games.  Whether you’re an aspiring actor, debater, politician, poet, or anything else that has you standing in front of a crowd, learn techniques that will help you master the mic.  Led by stand up comedian and poet, Alan Leangvan, and spoken word poet Miranda Krogstad, you will learn tried and true methods that will boost your confidence on and off the stage.

Broadway Bound Dance

Bravo! Encore! Our dance camp returns this summer for your rising star. Our dance instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! Throughout the week, campers will practice and expand their dancing skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Campers will be introduced to several dance moves & styles to record a final dance performance on Friday. They will also do a variety of arts & crafts projects that are related to their dance performance. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available.

Kinder Kamp

This full-day camp is designed for kids who are about to take the first big leap into Kindergarten in the fall. Our camp instructor is busy planning some exciting and new activities, while bringing back many favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! Throughout the week, our Kinder Kampers will enjoy arts & crafts, storytelling, games, science experiments, scavenger hunts, and other fun projects. Each day's activities are based on a different theme while being balanced with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities. Campers will also get to go to the UCalgary Gymnastics Centre!

Please note that Kinder Kamp A and B are at different times and are taught by different instructors with different lesson plans, so campers can have a new experience if they register for multiple weeks. Kinder Kamp A is not a prerequisite for Kinder Kamp B so you can register for either one. 

MediCamp

Sign up for a dose of fun, STAT! Discover the fascinating field of medicine through hands-on activities at MediCamp this summer! Our MediCamp instructor is busy planning new and exciting challenges, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! This one-week camp encourages kids to engage in a variety of experiments, activities and challenges in a professional laboratory. Campers will explore how the human body functions, the basics of nutrition, exercise, stress, practice some First Aid, and learn about a variety of healthcare professions. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available.

Mini Black Belts

Engage your child’s mind and body this summer at our martial arts camp. Our experienced martial arts instructors aim to improve concentration, coordination and self-discipline in a safe and encouraging environment. Campers will practice striking and grappling techniques with the instructor using padded targets. They also learn how to safely execute moves and self-defense techniques inspired by a variety of martial arts (mostly Karate) which foster self-confidence, respect, and a healthy lifestyle. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available

Mini Brick Builders

Put the pieces together brick-by-brick at our LEGO®* camp this summer! Throughout the week, campers will face some big challenges that require a whole lot of creativity, imagination, and problem solving. Our mini brick builders instructor is busy planning new and exciting challenges, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! Between orchestrating large group builds, cities, bridges, vehicles, spaceships, planes (and really anything else they can think of) campers are guaranteed to have a great time building with our gigantic stockpile of LEGO®*. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. Please note there will be no swimming from August 19-23 due to maintenance and cleaning.

Mini Indoor Sports & Games

Our Indoor Sports & Games camp is perfect for kids to expend all their endless energy this summer! Our instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known sports & games to get campers active this summer! This camp encourages kids to learn how to play a variety of new and classic indoor sports & camp games. Activities may include: soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball, archery, basketball, handball, quidditch, relay races, badminton, and more depending on the age group. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. Please note the pool will be closed from August 19-23 due to maintenance and cleaning. There will also be no swimming on July 1 and August 5 due to statutory holidays.

Mini Musketeers

Discover the sport of Olympic fencing with our professional fencing coaches from Epic Fencing* Club at our Mini Musketeers camp this summer! This camp is designed for beginners with no previous fencing experience. The camp is a great introduction for people who may want to continue in fencing programs following the camp or for those who want to try a new activity in the summer. Fencers will learn the fundamentals of fencing technique including: how to lunge, parry, and score an attack in a safe match environment. We will provide all sport, fencing and safety equipment. Development of technical skills is enhanced with one-on-one instruction and division into smaller groups. Each day is balanced with fencing skill development & practice and a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Mini Outdoor Sports & Games

Our Outdoor Sports & Games camp is perfect for kids to expend all their endless energy this summer! Our instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known sports & games to get campers active this summer! This camp encourages kids to learn how to play a variety of new and classic outdoor sports & camp games. Activities may include: soccer, kickball, capture the flag, baseball, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, touch football/rugby, dodgeball, quidditch, relay races, parachute games and more depending on the age group. Each day is balanced with a variety of indoor activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. Please note the pool will be closed from August 19-23 for maintenance and cleaning. There will also be no swimming on July 1 and August 5 due to statutory holidays.

Please note that Mini Outdoor Sports & Games A and B are at different times and are taught by different instructors with different lesson plans, so campers can have a new experience if they register for multiple weeks. A is not a prerequisite for B so you can register for either one. 

Mini U 101

This full-day camp is designed for kids who are entering Grade 1 in the fall. Our camp instructor is busy planning some exciting and new activities, while bringing back many favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! Throughout the week, the Mini’s will enjoy arts & crafts, storytelling, games, science experiments, scavenger hunts and other fun projects. Each day’s activities are based on a different theme while being balanced with a wide variety of indoor & outdoor physical activities. Campers will go to the Gymnastics Centre and also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. Please note there will be no swimming from August 19-23 due to maintenance and cleaning.

Broadway Bound Drama

Bravo! Encore! Our performing arts camp returns this summer for your rising star. Our drama instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! Campers will explore and discover their budding passion for drama through a variety of fun drama related activities and games designed to introduce them to the performing arts.Throughout the week, campers will develop an understanding of the many aspects of drama and acting in a supportive and encouraging environment. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. A highlight of the week is a theatrical performance and workshop with UCalgary’s local theatre troupe, Wagonstage. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Kreative Kids Digital Arts

Bring out your kids’ artistic side and ignite their imagination this summer at one of our Kreative Kids camps! Our digital arts instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! This one-week camp encourages kids to discover their budding passion for digital art through a variety of art projects.Campers will learn how to make digital art using a drawing tablet, take some photographs outside, and be introduced to photo & image editing. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available.

Library De-Tech-Tives

Calling all history spies, library sleuths, cultural inspectors, and digital detectives to the Taylor Family Digital Library’s Summer Camp! Each week, campers will be joined by our team of archivist, curator, librarian, and digital maker experts to investigate the unique collections and programs at TFDL. Step into their shoes and investigate a world of possibilities!
 
Whether getting up close and personal with the artworks at the Nickle Galleries, exploring Indigenous ways of knowing through storytelling games and art, visiting our archives and special collections to get insider views of the past, or testing out nifty new digital technologies, each week campers will get a behind the scenes adventure in the new world of libraries, archives, and museums. Who knows what other surprises and mysteries there might be in the stacks!
 
Sessions will focus on hands-on activities, and between sessions there will be body breaks to keep the campers moving, having fun and staying engaged all day long. If your child loves creating, doing something new every day, and investigating the past and future, this is the camp for them!

Science Trek Physics

Discover how the world works at our Science Trek Physics camp this summer! This one-week camp encourages kids to engage in a variety of experiments, activities and challenges in a professional laboratory. Campers will be introduced to the many types of energy and forces that exist in the world in a hands-on manner. Word Nerds

Join other enthusiastic writers for a week of hands-on writing activities.  From poetry taboo to rap battles, prose-writing to puns, participants will take tools from a breadth of genres to better their writing.  Whether you’re an emerging writer or a seasoned pro, we are looking for eager writers who want to get passionate about their craft and take a week-long deep dive.  By the end, you will have skills to help you rock the mic, the stage, the bestseller list, or whatever realm you choose. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games and indoor activities led by our camp leaders.

Stay Safe and Babysitting Camp

This camps teaches basic first aid and caregiving skills to youth 11-16 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families.

 

Veterinary Camp

Ever thought of becoming a veterinarian? Do you love animals big and small? This online camp will introduce you to some of the skills and knowledge veterinarians need to take care of a variety of species.
 
Provided by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, you'll have fun learning from veterinary students each day with approximately 2.5hrs of live (online) interactive sessions, scheduled between 9 a.m and 3 p.m (Mountain Time). You will also receive a fabulous swag bag of goodies that includes a genuine veterinarian scrub top and materials for the at-home activities.

Active Gamers

Get in the game and get moving this summer! At our cutting-edge active gaming camp, campers will play the hottest new games for Nintendo Switch®* and Xbox One Kinect®* gaming systems. They will also explore virtual reality through our Oculus Meta Quest 2® VR systems and play classic and new board games with other campers in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. Campers will also learn about video game elements, drag-and-drop programming using rapid game development apps on iPads®*, and basic coding for games on computers. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Adapted Sport & Recreation Summer Camp

Come discover your abilities! This camp is centred upon giving youth with disabilities the opportunity to explore various adapted sport, recreational and leisure activities. Different programs from the Calgary area provide the opportunity for each camper to experience a trial of the adapted physical activity programming they offer throughout the year. Campers get to challenge themselves physically through activities such as: yoga, gymnastics, dance, boccia, karate, tennis, sledge hockey, cycling, swimming, VOLT Hockey and a variety of wheelchair sports like basketball and fencing. Please note that the described activities are subject to change and are presented as examples only. Campers also get to explore their creative side through arts & crafts projects in between activity sessions. The goal of this camp is to increase each camper’s confidence in their ability to participate in school and community programs. This camp is offered in partnership with the Vi Riddell Pediatric Rehabilitation Research Program and The Calgary Adapted Hub Powered by Jumpstart.

UCalgary Youth Programs does not provide intimate & personal care for participants. Those cares include any toileting needs, feeding, dressing, changing continence pads (faeces/urine), washing intimate parts of the body, changing sanitary wear, delivering medication such as insulin, or other personal hygiene activities. Participants who require this level of care must provide their own personal aide/support. 

The Adapted Sport & Recreation Summer Camp run by The University of Calgary is a Calgary Adapted Hub Powered by Jumpstart program. The Calgary Adapted Hub is a collective of 12 Calgary-based organizations, including UCalgary's Active Living. The Calgary Adapted Hub is committed to providing quality inclusive and accessible sport and recreation programs for all children in Calgary. Bronze Medallion/Cross

The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion and Cross course challenges candidates both mentally and physically. Judgement, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion/Cross training. This course emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Complete two courses for the price of one with this combined camp. 

CJSW Radio Podcasters

Explore the wild world of radio and music this summer, hosted in partnership with the University of Calgary’s campus and community radio station: CJSW 90.9 FM! This week-long summer camp will take kids on a journey through radio, from creating their own DJ mix to going live on the airwaves! Kids can fine-tune their creative skills by utilizing an array of different recording software in the Digital Creation Studio on the University of Calgary campus to build their own podcast that will also air on the CJSW Originals (spoken word) podcast series. Each day of the camp will focus on a different aspect of radio production and presentation from camp leaders, CJSW staff, and community members, with time to mold audio ideas into a completed project by the end of the week. Campers will also be able to take up other opportunities as they are available throughout the week at CJSW.

The University of Calgary Student Radio Society (CJSW Radio) is one of Calgary’s only independent media outlets and is Calgary’s only campus & community radio station. Our instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! This one-week camp encourages kids to discover their budding passion for comic books and graphic novels through a variety of projects and is designed for kids who want to learn more about how comics are made so they can create some of their own. Our instructor will introduce the creative process of comic book creation and encourage campers to explore their own ideas in a safe and supportive environment. Campers will explore topics including: brainstorming, character and story ideas, sketching, and drawing. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers entering Grades 5-7 will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Dino Detectives

Unearth ancient myths and discover fossil facts at our brand-new Dino Detectives summer camp! Our instructor is busy crafting thrilling, hands-on experiences every camper will love. Throughout the week, our budding palaeontologists will discover what dinosaurs looked like, explore the art of moulding and casting to create replicas of real fossils, and design unique dinosaurs to survive in any environment. Campers will build prehistoric landscapes in our augmented reality sandbox, learning how meteor impacts and volcanic activity shaped our planet. And, of course, no palaeontology experience is complete without a dinosaur dig. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Figure Skating Camp

Calling all ice stars! Join us this summer to fuel your passion for skating.

For kids who've passed at least level 5 in ANY learn to skate program up to and including competitive figure skaters. Grouped according to ability, athletes will learn and build upon all fundamental figure skating skills. On-ice sessions will focus on stroking, free skate, and ice dance in the Olympic Oval training centre, while off-ice sessions like yoga, dance, functional conditioning and sport psychology will enhance their on-ice experience. Girl Powered Robotics

Western Mechatronics, Schulich School of Engineering and Google are proud to present the The Second Annual  Girl Powered Workshop in Alberta. In this workshop, students will work in teams of 3 - 5 to design, build, and program a robot to compete with other teams in complex engineering challenges, like VEX Spin Up.

Gymnastics Camp [Calgary]

Engage your child’s mind and body this summer at our gymnastics summer camp. This camp is designed by Active Living’s experienced Gymnastics Coaches to improve your child’s strength, balance, coordination and movement skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Activities in the Gymnastics Centre will provide skill development at each individual's level on a variety of gymnastic apparatuses utilizing stations that are designed to develop fundamental movement patterns in a fun and safe way. Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Film Camp in A Box Junior Lego animation camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the stop motion animation process, including pre production, production and post production. Working in small crews, they will learn about stop motion animation, set design, script writing and editing. Campers will then create their own stop motion animation and edit a short film and movie trailer. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Junior Dinos Rugby

The Dinos Rugby camps are the perfect place to improve your skills, get active and compete against other players around Calgary. Participants will learn rugby fundamentals and techniques, conditioning methods and team play tactics.

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Film Camp in A Box movie making camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process, including pre production, production and post production. Working in small crews, they will learn about cinematography, script writing and editing. Campers will then create, act in and edit a short film and movie trailer. Participants will have the opportunity to use our latest technology, including Mac books, 4K cameras, tripods, boom microphones, green screens and the use of an aerial drone. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Junior Music Video Production

Rock and Roll all night and every day in our Music Video Production workshop. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the music video production process, including pre production, production and post production. Working collaboratively in small crews, they will learn about cinematography specific to music videos and advanced editing techniques. Using an existing pop culture song, campers will listen to the lyrics, learn them and create their own story and meaning. They will then act in and edit their full music video. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

At our new culinary camp, your child will learn how to make a variety of snacks and meals by learning from our Instructor and making food together. Campers will roll up their sleeves and get hands-on experience in the kitchen so they are more confident making food for themselves. They'll learn basic food preparation, knife skills (with cut resistant gloves), and kitchen safety under the guidance of our experienced Instructors. Our camp provides a safe, engaging, and fun environment where kids can develop basic kitchen skills, unlock their creativity, and most importantly, have a blast in the process. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Mini Concert Masters

Bravo! Encore! We’re excited to debut a unique and immersive musical experience in our music-based camp this summer! Our concert masters instructor who is also a music educator is busy planning new and exciting activities and lessons we're positive every camper will love! This camp is designed to build upon children’s prior knowledge and experience as young musicians. Although not required, having a basic background in playing the ukulele (and/or guitar), piano, and various percussion instruments will greatly enhance the overall experience. Campers will explore their budding passion for music and composition through a variety of fun music related activities and games designed to enhance their understanding of the performing arts. Throughout the week, campers will develop an understanding of the many aspects of music, improvising, and musical productions by playing instruments together while also exploring how to compose a piece, making invitations & programs, and preparing for a smashing final concert! Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.
 

Mini Pro Golfers

FORE! Tee up and hit a hole-in-one this summer at our popular summer golf camp. Skill development and fun are par for the course. This one-week camp encourages young golfers to practice their driving, chipping, and putting skills on and off the links with our experienced golf instructors. Campers will also receive instruction from a CPGA Golf Pro at Confederation Park Golf Course on Monday and play a round of 9 holes on McCall Lake’s Par 3 Course on both Wednesday (with the pro) and Friday! On Tuesday and Thursday, campers will practice their driving and chipping skills outside on-campus. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. Please note the pool will be closed from August 19-23 for maintenance and cleaning and they will go to the golf course on July 2 and August 6 instead of swimming on those short weeks.

Please note, we have a secure area to store everyone’s equipment for the week. Don’t own a set of clubs? No worries! Mini University has a set of quality clubs you can rent at an affordable price ($35 for the week). There are four clubs in each rental set including a putter, driver and a 9 and 7 iron. We have a wide selection of shorter and taller clubs as well as lots of right and left handed sets. Our Instructors will give your child their clubs on the first day camp so you don't have to pick them up. Tees, balls, ball markers and divot repair kits will be provided to all campers. We have a secure area to store everyone’s clubs for the week.

Mini U Spring Break Camp

Engage your child’s mind and body through a variety of fun activities offered by Mini University’s most popular camps. Mountain Bike Camp

Gear up for an adrenaline-fueled ride and let's kick up some dust on the trails this summer! Join our week-long camp where we'll immerse you in the world of mountain biking. From mastering the basics like braking, balance, and body positioning to the thrill of gearing, cornering, and trail maneuvering, we've got it all covered. The first two days are all about conquering local trails and building skills, and then the real adventure kicks in as we spend the rest of the week tearing it up on the wild trails of Kananaskis and Bragg Creek. Get ready to shred, laugh, and make memories that pedal straight into the fun zone!

Needle & Fibre Arts

Bring out your kids’ artistic side and ignite their imagination this summer at our Needle & Fibre Arts camp! Our fibre arts instructor is busy planning new and exciting activities, while bringing back some favourite, well-known lessons we're positive every camper will love! This one-week camp encourages kids to discover their budding passion for the fibre arts through a variety of art projects. Using a range of different sewing, knitting, crocheting, macrame, hand embroidery, and punch needle techniques, campers will be excited to share their unique creations with you at the end of the week! Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders. Campers entering Grades 5-7 will also have the opportunity to play fun lifeguard-led games in the pool at our indoor Aquatic Centre! Everyone will have to do a swim test and lifejackets will always be readily available. There will be no swimming time for campers entering Grades 8-10 or on August 5 due to the statutory holiday.

Racquet Sports Camp

Senior Claymation and Lego Animation

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Film Camp in A Box Senior Claymation and Lego animation camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the stop motion animation process, including pre production, production and post production. Working in small crews, they will learn about stop motion animation, set design, script writing and editing. Campers will then create their own stop motion animation and edit a short film and movie trailer, complete with sound effects, music, voice, sound effects and special effects. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Senior Filmmaking

Fill your week with action, adventure and a lot of comedy with Film Camp in A Box movie making camp. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process, including pre production, production and post production. Working in small crews, they will learn about cinematography, script writing and editing on Final Cut Pro. Campers will then create, act in and edit a short film and movie trailer, adding special effects, music, voices, titles and sound effects. Participants will have the opportunity to use our latest technology, including Mac books, 4K cameras, tripods, boom microphones, green screens and the use of an aerial drone. Crews will also create their own promotions and advertising links to showcase their music video the world. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Senior Music Video Production

Rock and Roll all night and every day in our Music Video Production workshop. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands-on exploration of the music video production process, including pre production, production and post production. Working collaboratively in small crews, they will learn about cinematography specific to music videos and advanced editing techniques. Using an existing pop culture song, campers will listen to the lyrics, learn them and create their own story and meaning. They will then act in and edit their full music video. Crews will also create their own promotions and advertising links to showcase their music video the world. Movies will be presented at our red carpet, popcorn film festival and archived on our digital theatre.

Skating Camp

Get back on the ice this summer in this BRAND NEW UCalgary summer camp designed to learn and keep skating skills sharp while developing physical literacy through fundamental movement. Campers in our Kids Skate levels 1-4 will skate twice a day with highly experienced and certified skating instructors either at the Olympic Oval, or Norma Bush Arenas depending on the week. Purposefully planned outdoor and gym activities will expose children to a variety of fundamental movement skills that will enhance their skating ability, foster a love for movement, and encourage the development of confidence and motivation.

Survivor Camp

Get ready to unleash your inner wilderness warrior this summer! Dive into a week of wild thrills as we guide you through the art of survival. Navigating trails, crafting your shelter, and mastering fire-building wizardry in the heart of Kananaskis. One day, we'll bring the adventure to our Natural Adventure Park on campus, where you'll fine-tune your shelter-building skills. Get ready for a wild week where each day unfolds a chapter in your epic outdoor adventure!

Teen Mountain Bike Day Camp

Calgary & Kananaskis have some of the best mountain biking terrain in the world! The group will spend 1 day in the city learning the basics and the next 2 days out in Kananaskis skills. You’ll learn about and practice body positioning, gearing, cornering, and maneuvering on trails. Trail selection, bike maintenance, and outdoor skills are also introduced.

This immersive program is designed for participants of all levels, offering a rich curriculum that unveils the core principles of mountaineering. Throughout this program, participants will master the intricacies of glacier travel, risk management in an alpine environment, basic navigation techniques, and leadership skills. Join us on this extraordinary journey, where the mountains become your playground and each skill learned is a stepping-stone to conquering new challenges and embracing the beauty of our backyard!
 

Teen Songsmiths

Testing, testing. 1-2-3! Amp up your upcoming platinum-label teen wonder in our song writing focused camp this summer! Our instructor, who is a well versed musical educator, is busy planning new and exciting activities and lessons we're positive every camper will love! This camp is designed to build upon teens' existing love and passion for music and composing. Although not required, being able to sing, play the piano, guitar or ukulele will greatly enhance the overall experience. Campers will explore a popular area within the field of music where they will be guided through ideating, composing, and recording their own songs throughout the week. Small group improv, album art design, and working with basic recording software are a few of the opportunities these rising musicians can look forward to in this camp designed to expand their musical journeys. Each day is balanced with a variety of outdoor games & activities led by our camp leaders.

Get ready for a wild adventure at our week-long camp designed for the youngest nature enthusiasts! Dive into the excitement of hiking, master the art of critter-catching, and let loose with a whirlwind of outdoor fun. We'll make a splash in the pool, embark on a wild day at the zoo, unleash your inner artist with cool crafts, and amp up the energy with loads of games. We’ll explore nature’s wonders on our epic field trip, where every tree becomes a treasure, and every path leads to excitement. Join us for a week of non-stop fun, new friendships, and unforgettable outdoor experiences!
 

Youth Triathlon Summer Camp

A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event with swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances. The triathlon camp is offered by University of Calgary Triathlon Club, the longest-serving Triathlon Club in Canada. At this week-long intensive camp, participants learn proper biking, running and swimming techniques from highly trained coaches. Camp activities will develop aerobic and anaerobic systems to give a good base for all sports. Participants will have fun with other youth at the same level, with progression from start up, all the way to Junior National Team level training. They will also be introduced to the different technical aspects of the sport while receiving coaching to improve their transition times and overall performance. Each day is balanced with a variety of fun indoor & outdoor activities, too. 

Please bring appropriate swim attire & equipment, as participants will be swimming on a daily basis. Participants will also be biking daily. For safety and security, a bike lock is required as well as the ability to transport the bike to and from camp as Active Living does not have any overnight storage space.

Get into Fly Fishing - Teens

Southern Alberta is world renowned for fly-fishing! This course introduces you to the basics of the sport, including casting techniques, proper fly selection, knot-tying, reading water, and fish habitat. This day camp will take you to different locations in and out of the city limits everyday.

Go out on a reel adventure and get hooked on the thrill of fishing in this introductory week-long camp! Each day we’ll travel to a new lake or pond around the city or in Kananaskis to learn basic fishing techniques. We'll also spend a day at the Bow Habitat Station, unraveling the fishy mysteries of their lifecycle, habitat, and how to be the ultimate ecosystem protector. Join us for a week of fishing, learning, and unforgettable outdoor escapades!

Kananaskis Explorers

Spend a week sampling some of the best outdoor activities in and out of the city limits! We’ll head out to Kananaskis to hit the trails for mountain biking and hiking, soak up the summer sun while stand-up paddleboarding, and test out our survival skills. One day will be spent in the city where we’ll dip into the waters of Bowness Park with our canoes. Don’t miss out on the best of the great outdoors—join the fun and let the adventure begin!

World of Watersports

Get ready to make a splash in our week-long watersports camp at Bowness Park! From conquering calm waters with canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding to tackling the thrilling waves of the Bow River in Calgary, every day is a new aquatic adventure! Dive in for a summer of watery fun, meet awesome people, and soak up new skills that will make a splash in your summer memories.  

Prerequisite:
  • Able to swim 50m while wearing a lifejacket

Bunnies Sampler

This half-day program is an introduction to the sport of cross-country skiing. It's designed to give kids a taste of the sport before committing to a full program.

Bunnies is ages 4–6 and Jackrabbits is ages 7–14, and guardians are encouraged to join in.

No experience necessary. Transportation and equipment rentals are not included.

Bunnies Ski Series

Spend Saturdays learning how to cross-country ski and developing your ski skills. Tailored specifically for the Kananaskis ski trails, this Bunnies program focuses on classic technique, going for skis and playing games. Depending on group size, kids are divided based on age and ability. A guardian must attend the first class with their child. Guardians are welcome to join in.

Other options are Jackrabbits (ages 7-14) and Jackrabbits Plus (ages 12-17) for skiers looking for longer and faster skis with a focus on technique. 

We will spend most of our sessions in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park however, depending on snow conditions we hope to go to West Bragg Creek, Kananaskis Village, and even some Calgary Golf Courses.

No experience necessary. Transportation and equipment rentals are not included.

Spend Saturdays in Kananaskis developing your cross-country ski skills. This program is for skiers who have completed our Jackrabbits program or already know how to ski and are looking for a challenge. We'll spend time refining technique through games and drills, and then go on longer and faster skis. There will be about 5-10 km of skiing in most lessons. Jackrabbit Plus is for ages 12-17, however we're flexible if you feel this program is a good fit for your skill level. We have ski programs for all ages. Outdoor Spring Break Camp

Meet new friends and have loads of fun this school spring break! We plan to drive to Kananaskis for 2 days of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing or hiking and survival skills (snow dependent). The other 2 to 3 days will be in the city and may include wall climbing, bouldering, age-appropriate crafts, indoor and outdoor games, taking the train to the Calgary Zoo, swimming, and more. 

If we are not able to drive vans this Spring Break, we will be on campus those 2 days and will snowshoe and ski if there is enough snow in town or nature walk and learn about wilderness survival skills in an urban setting, as well as all of the other activities listed above. 

Climb On!

Defy gravity and reach new heights all week! You’ll spend half the day wall climbing and/or bouldering indoors and the other half outside playing games, swimming, biking, and visiting kid-friendly places in the city.

Backpacking Expeditions - Teens

Head out to the mountains in Kananaskis with our backpacking guides for a multi-day trip of exploring and backcountry camping! Our guides will teach you route-finding, navigation, backcountry cooking, campsite management, and animal safety! Options include 3-Day, 4-Day, or 5-Day trips.

Teen Canoe ABC Day Camp

Spend 3 days learning all about canoeing! On the first day, participants will learn the basics at Bowness Lagoon. On day 2, you’ll progress your skills to the eddies with an introduction to moving water. Finally, on day 3, you’ll test out your newly acquired skills on a full day river run from Bowness to Inglewood. Our guides will cover water safety, paddling strokes, river reading, navigation, and what is needed for a day of paddling.
Please Note: Drop-Off/Pick-Up occurs and Bowness Park, except for the Friday afternoon where Pick-Up will be in Inglewood.

Prerequisites:
  • Able to swim 50m in a lifejacket

Teen Canoe Expedition

Spend 3-5 days on a canoe trip this summer! Learn about paddle strokes, water safety, and how to pack for a multi-day trip from experienced canoe guides. Trips will be lake-based or river-based in Alberta.

Dinos Hockey Camps

Lace up for an excellent hockey experience at a Dinos Hockey Camp this summer! Participants will benefit from technical training and be led by current and former University of Calgary players and coaches. Hit the ice to hone your individual skills and learn advanced team play and tactics. Step off the ice and put your training into overdrive with dry-land training, team building games and video sessions. Goalies will get individual instruction, but will also be part of the player’s camp, which allows them to incorporate what they have worked on with the instructors.

Dinos Swimming Camps

Dive into the season early with the Dinos Swim Camps! These competitive swim camps will give your athlete the edge they need to start the season a stroke ahead of the competition. Our CSCTA-certified Olympic level University of Calgary swim program coaches provide a technique-based program with a focus on all four strokes, starts, and turns. There will also be training sessions focused on conditioning while maintaining and developing technique. With two in-water sessions daily, classroom learning, outdoor dry-land training, yoga stretching as welll as some mindfullness training, and chances to earn daily prizes the Dinos Swim Camps provide an exciting opportunity to learn, practice, and have fun.

This camp is for competitive swimmers and all participants must be a Swim Canada member and have a Swim Canada ID.

Lifeguarding Camp

If you’re thinking of becoming a lifeguard, this camp is for you! Swimmers will be introduced to lifeguard rescue and first aid skills. Have fun with rescue tubes and other lifeguard tools. This camp will also provide you with the opportunity to review your swimming skills and gain added insight on your strokes. Instructors will give an orientation to lifeguard programs. Each day is balanced with a variety of indoor and outdoor games and activities led by our Camp Leaders. 
 

Gymnastics Summer Camps [Cochrane]

Whether you are new to the sport of gymnastics or an existing gymnast who wants to learn some new fun tricks, our Summer Camps are for you! Summer camps run for 4 or 5 consecutive days and can be done as a as a full day camp or you can just choose to do a morning or afternoon week long camp. (see age requirements for full day). All camps are co-ed and groups will be divided into the most appropriate age & ability on the first day. While our camps are primarily gymnastics based, we also incorporate team building, crafts, games and much more. *Themes are lightly incorporated.  All campers must be able to use the washroom facilities unassisted. 

Preschool Campers--ages 4-5 (coed)
We are proud to offer our 4-5 year old preschool camps, either a week of morning camp  OR afternoon camp. (Please do not register for both within the same week, as we find a full day is too much for this age group). Themes for each week of camp will be lightly incorporated into our programming, with lots of fun, games, gymnastic skills and more. Children MUST be able to follow instruction and use the washroom facility without assistance. Click on 'show details' for more information.   

Recreation Campers - age 6-13 (coed)
Our Recreation camps are an excellent way to keep active during the summer and gain buckets of strength, flexibility, coordination in a very fun-filled environment, with themes lightly incorporated. With our inground trampoline, 40-foot tumble track, uneven bars, balance beams, vaulting table and tons of specialized equipment geared towards fun, fitness, and fundamentals of gymnastics! Our qualified coaches will make the week very fun and engaging while lifelong friendships develop over the course of the week with like-minded kids. *NOTE: Trampoline and Tumbling programs for the Recreation Program will be incorporated as part of our overall summer camp and will all remain coed. However, we are offering one specific Trampoline & Tumbling Half Day Camp for our recreational athletes (please inquire if you need more information). Half and full day options available for recreational camps, click on 'show details' for more information. If you are registering for a half day camp you may only register for AM or PM, not both, unless you are able to do lunch pick up/sign out and drop off/sign in (pick up at 12 and drop off at 1pm, with an adult as they need to be signed out and in).

Wilderness Survivor

Take your survival skills to the next level in this week-long camp! We'll head into Kananaskis for the first two days, where hiking is just the warm-up. You'll master survival skills like navigation and fire building, then head back to campus to level up your shelter-building game at our Natural Adventure Park. The last two days are a survival mission, putting your skills to the test as you spend the night in a shelter you crafted yourself! Get set for a week of survival mastery, laughs, and unforgettable outdoor escapades! 

Please Note: this program involves travel in a 15-passenger van, driven by a trained and qualified driver.

Prerequisites:
  • Comfortable spending a night away from home.

Teen Outdoor Climbing

Spend 3 days rock climbing at popular beginner routes in and around Kananaskis with ACMG guides. You’ll have fun as you learn basic climbing skills such as belaying, climbing calls, and movement. You’ll progress to developing foot placement, hand positions, and route finding.

Outdoor Winter Break Camp

Spend the winter holiday having fun and playing in the snow! We plan to drive to Kananaskis for 2 days of snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and building snow forts. The other 2 days will be spent bouldering and/or wall climbing, swimming, building snow forts and more!
