  1. Be Informal. No suits. No glossy slides.
  2. Focus on sharing knowledge with fellow classmates.
  3. Relate the concept to theirs or others organizational situations.
  4. Provide only an overview - try to summarize in general terms and not too much technical details.
  5. Provde broad questions/issues for the class to ponder.

Since the book covers general issues and more specific US examples, today's preparation emphasizes the Canadian environment.
Sympatico has a comprehensive listing of Canadian financial services and the specific Canadian players:

After you reach the Sympatico home page, choose "Personal Finance" from the box near the top left corner (to see the whole list in the box just click on the arrow symbol). After making your choice, then click on "GO" to access the page. When you get to the Personal Finance page, look in the Suggested Sites, which is located near the bottom left corner, for "General" and click on this link. You will be at General Banking Page (www.ab.sympatico.ca:80/Contents/Finance/banking.html).

Browse through this site, looking for banks and trust companies (there is a list near the bottom). Identify Internet strategies, current state of Internet readiness and impending issues or challenges for a few companies. You might try the following companies:

For your interest, there is a more general banking page if you click on the "Our Web Guide" button of the Sympatico Home Page. This will take you to the contents page where you can find under the "business" title "Financial Institutions." After clicking on Financial Institutions you will be at a thorough overview of Canadian institutions.

  4. Review the topics covered during the course and identify business opportunities that might exist in these areas.

Topic: How to...

How to connect to AIX through a Browser FTP:

  1. Start your Browser
  2. In the URL Location of the browser, type:
    ftp://aixusername@acs.ucalgary.ca

    For instance, mine would be ftp://marcolin@acs.ucalgary.ca

  3. You will be prompted for your AIX password.
  4. The list presented is the files and directories in your AIX account. Click on the directories to move there, and click on the files to view them in the browser.
  5. Uploading and downloading from hear is as easy as drag and drop. For instance, left click and hold a .gif file, then drag it to your desktop or your "My Computer" directory (that had been opened previously), dropping it where you want the copy. Uploading works in reverse.
