Time is ticking on the opportunity to participate in a focus group session to energize Eyes High. Join the more than 187 members of the university community who have shared their ideas on the future of the university by registering for a focus group today. The last of 19 focus groups is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Some focus group participants have taken the time to share their experiences on social media:

Victoria Fast @VVFast: Amazing discussion and excitement at Energizing Eyes High focus group session this morning. Excited to be a part of the future of @UCalgary!

Leslie Reid @lfreid: Still thinking about the inspiring conversations from this morning's @UCalgary Eyes High focus group - get involved!

Last week 16 students won a free lunch for participating in the online survey and focus groups. Winners can pick up their $10 Mac Hall food vouchers in MLB 325 on Mondays and Fridays.

More than 2,000 people have completed the online survey, many taking the time to provide detailed comments:

“I think our scientific research focus is an excellent one, and appreciate how the federal government donation will enable us to spearhead more research into renewable technologies,” wrote one survey respondent.

“Health is the most important thing to promote learning and I recognize that the university is making efforts to encourage a healthy physical and mental lifestyle,” wrote another respondent.

More than 1,300 people participated in the online polls over the past three weeks.

Five ways to engage

There is still time to participate. You can choose one or more of the Energizing Eyes High consultation opportunities that work best for you.

* Special focus groups and surveys are being offered for alumni and external community members. Interested in learning more about these opportunities? Email

Anyone who attends a focus group or completes an online survey is eligible to enter a draw for one of 10 iPad Pros. Students are also eligible for weekly draws for $10 Mac Hall food vouchers, with a 50-per-cent chance of winning.

What happens next?

Feedback will help focus UCalgary priorities and impact funding decisions going forward. Once the consultation feedback is collected and analyzed, a refined strategic direction will move through our governance bodies – the General Faculties Council and the Board of Governors – before it is launched in spring 2017.
