Les Tochor, associate vice-president (finance)

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Les Tochor as associate vice-president (finance) effective Oct. 31, 2016.

Les rejoins the University of Calgary with more than 25 years of experience working in various leadership roles. In his most recent role as chief operating officer at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, he was instrumental in designing and implementing new budgeting processes to enhance decision-making relative to approving grants and managing cash flow. He revised the financial information and reporting packages provided to the Finance and Audit Committee, the Investment Committee and the Board of Directors to improve issue recognition and status reporting. Working at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation broadened Les’ set of accountabilities and include finance and treasury, as well as procurement, human resources, information technology, risk management and privacy.

Prior to this role, Les was the associate vice-president (finance) at the University of Calgary. Under Les’ leadership, the finance portfolio had many significant accomplishments including the creation of the integrated service centre, centralization of core financial processes, enhancement of key internal controls and enhancement of financial business support to faculties and units through the creation of the business partner model.

Les is an experienced public sector leader with demonstrated success in implementing change in complex environments while being sensitive to the intricacies of governing regulations and policies.

Les is a chartered professional accountant and received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan. He holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance from the Institute of internal Auditors. Les has been a presenter on innovative support services, corporate treasury management, internal controls and internal audit quality assessment. Les is also yellow belt certified in Lean Six Sigma.

As associate vice-president (finance), Les will be a member of the university’s senior leadership team and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and management for the finance portfolio including financial operations, financial reporting, treasury and investments, research accounting, finance services, supply chain management, integrated service centre and ancillary services.

I’d like to thank members of the selection committee and Davies Park Executive Search for their assistance in the associate vice-president (finance) search process.

Please join me in welcoming Les back to the University of Calgary.

Linda Dalgetty
