University of Calgary Campus Ticket Centre officially closes

UPass services moved to Tech Stop in Mac Hall

Today, the University of Calgary announced the closure of the Campus Ticket Centre in Mac Hall. Campus Ticket Centre staff were notified earlier, and the last day of business is July 27, 2016.

The Campus Ticket Centre sold Ticketmaster event tickets, lottery tickets, City of Calgary Transit passes, and was the distribution centre for the student Universal Transit Pass Program (UPass). Parking and Transportation Services has been managing the Campus Ticket Centre for the past 20 years.

“With the recent trends to online event ticket purchasing, the number of students, staff and faculty that use this outlet has declined,” says Susan Austen, associate director (Parking and Transportation Services). “Over the last few years, the operation has not been fiscally and financially viable, so the decision was made to close the location.”

The UPass program will continue to be managed by Parking and Transportations services. The UPass is a transit sticker applied to the Unicard that gives all eligible full-time students access to transit services.

There will be no disruption to UPass services. Distribution of the UPass will take place at the Tech Stop, located in the lower level of Mac Hall next to the University of Calgary Bookstore.

The Tech Stop is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ongoing UPass support and maintenance.

Extended hours of operation will begin in time for the back-to-school fall rush. “Eighty-five per cent of students get their UPass stickers during the first two to three weeks in September, and we want to make sure that students are receiving their stickers in a timely fashion,” says Austen.

Additionally, the Parking and Transportation service counter, located at the Olympic Volunteer Centre (OVC), is staffed to assist UPass customers for both distribution and ongoing support from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

If students don’t have their Unicard, they can submit their photo online through the Unicard website and the UPass sticker will be applied on their card and ready for pick up, in September, at the Unicard office located in the Dining Centre.

All other services that were offered at the Campus Ticket Centre — Ticketmaster event tickets, lottery tickets and City of Calgary Transit passes — are no longer available at a university-operated outlet, but transit passes are still available at the Stör in Mac Hall.
