This University of Calgary has launched the new WellBeing and WorkLife portfolio in Human Resources — a unit that is committed to promoting and enhancing a strong culture of well-being within the university community and providing mental health and wellness resources for all faculty and staff.
Living a healthy and balanced life is a combination of physical, social and mental well-being. Already, the university offers a number of programs and initiatives for employees to proactively address challenges related to their personal and work life.
Some examples include LifeWorks, the Working Mind, the Depression Centre, nutritional counselling, smoking cessation, mindfulness training as well as a variety of other resources. This extensive programming is integral to the university’s Campus Mental Health Strategy that was launched in December 2015.
Tools and resources available to faculty and staff to manage wellness
“The new WellBeing and WorkLife portfolio is an important step in creating a healthy and supportive campus community,” says Dru Marshall, provost and vice president (academic).
“We want to ensure employees are aware of the resources available to help them achieve a healthy work-life balance.”
Visit the WellBeing and WorkLife website for a collection of readily available information about all mental health, work-life and wellness services and resources available across campus as well as in the greater Calgary community. This site provides tools and resources to help all faculty and staff proactively manage their work and personal lives as well as to help address any emerging health and wellness concerns.
