Bermuda Shorts Day runs this year on Wednesday, April 15.

Wednesday, April 15, marks the 56th annual Bermuda Shorts Day (BSD) — the student-led celebration of the last day of classes. BSD is exclusive to University of Calgary students who have obtained a wristband from the Students’ Union.

This year’s event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in parking lot 32 on the southeast corner of campus and includes a beer garden and live music performances. The event in lot 32 is the only BSD event sanctioned by the university and the Students’ Union. In addition, several changes to parking, road and building access, and Calgary Transit will take place that may affect students, faculty and staff.

Parking lot 32 will be closed Wednesday, April 15 and will reopen on Thursday, April 16. Alternate parking lots to use include the Arts Parkade ($10 per entry) or parking lots 10 and 11 ($7 per entry).

Road Closures

On Wednesday, Campus Drive will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Campus Place and Campus Gate. Access to lots 19, 21, 25 and 28 will only be available from 32nd Avenue. Access to lots 31, 33 and 34 can be made from 24th Avenue all day.

Building Closures

Scurfield Hall will be closed from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on event day with only those attending classes or who have business in the building allowed entry, and MacEwan Student Centre will be closed from 4 to 6 p.m.

Calgary Transit

Bus route #20 will be rerouted for the day, with a detour to be determined by Calgary Transit. Call 403-262-1000 or visit for more information.

UCalgaryStrong Festival

Students, faculty and staff are invited to the inaugural UCalgaryStrong Festival in the Jack Simpson Gymnasium and surrounding areas to join in a free, family friendly, end-of-year experience on April 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 pm. The festival will feature an artisan market, live performances at the community café, and a quiet reflection space in a contemplative labyrinth. Attendees are also encouraged to participate in free active living programs offered throughout the afternoon including yoga, Zumba and geocaching. The schedule of entertainers, artisans and activities will be available on the UCalgaryStrong website.
