Angelique Saweczko appointed as university registrar

Message to the campus community from Vice-Provost Susan Barker

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Angelique Saweczko as university registrar effective Feb. 16, 2015.

Angelique joins the University of Calgary with more than 17 years of experience working in post-secondary enrolment services. She is currently associate vice-president, strategic enrolment and university registrar at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, B.C., where she provides institutional oversight for the Registrar’s Office and the Faculty of Student Development. In this role, she is also responsible for a staffing and operating budget of $7.1 million, leading a division of more than 140 staff, including work with the university senate. Previous to her time at TRU, Angelique worked as director of enrolment services at the University of Regina and also contributed many years to York University in recruitment, admissions and awards.

Angelique holds a bachelor of arts degree from York University as well as a master of education in post-secondary studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is a strong advocate for post-secondary education as a member of a variety of committees including the B.C. Council on Admissions and Transfer research committee, the ApplyBC steering committee, and the B.C. Registrars Association, among others. She is currently treasurer/secretary for the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC). She has presented at many national and international conferences and is responsible for a number of papers and presentations in the enrolment field. Angelique is a forward-thinking and results-oriented leader who has built her career on the fundamental pillars of achieving excellence and promoting student success.

As registrar, Angelique will lead the registrar team to find ways to engage students and set a new standard for service delivery, particularly online. Angelique will work with university stakeholders to determine a new way of looking at the registrar function. As the front-line interface between the university and its students, she will be responsible for developing accountable and effective processes that affect students from initial recruitment and admission to graduation.

Thank you to Debbie Bruckner, director of the Student Wellness Centre, for acting as interim registrar since May 2014.

I would also like to thank the members of the advisory selection committee that I worked alongside for their great work in bringing Angelique to the university: Dru Marshall, provost and vice-president (academic); Bruce Evelyn, vice-provost (planning and resource allocation); Lisa Young, vice-provost and dean (graduate studies); Richard Sigurdson, dean, Faculty of Arts; Jo-Anne Ouellette, human resources; Hana Kadri, undergraduate student representative; Cari Gulbrandsen, graduate student representative; and Courtney McVie, Provost’s Office.

Please join me in welcoming Angelique to the University of Calgary.

Susan Barker, Vice-Provost (Student Experience)
