We are pleased to announce the honorary degree and Order of the University of Calgary recipients for the May 8 convocation ceremony for the faculties of law, medicine, veterinary medicine and graduate studies.
The honorary degree, the Doctor of Laws, is the University of Calgary’s highest academic honour bestowed upon individuals whose notable achievements and community service merit recognition. These distinguished individuals will address our graduating class during the May convocation ceremony, sharing words of wisdom gained through years as leaders in their field.
Individuals who are recognized with the Order of the University of Calgary have a history of distinguished service to the university, and are widely recognized as university champions and supporters.
Dr. Brian Evans – Honorary Degree
Dr. Evans is the university’s first honorary degree recipient in veterinary medicine and a leader in public health service. His distinguished career has included appointments as chief veterinary officer of Canada, executive vice-president of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Canada’s first chief food safety officer.
He is a strong advocate for the integrated management of the social, economic, bio-security and food security risks that emerge when the eco-system and animal and human health all come together.
Dr. Marvin Fritzler – Order of the University of Calgary
Dr. Fritzler is a distinguished alumnus of the University of Calgary, a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and chairman of the Alberta Research and Innovation Authority established by the Government of Alberta. His clinical and research activity is devoted to auto-antibody testing through the Mitogen Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory. Please join us in offering our congratulations and welcoming our honorary degree and Order of the University of Calgary recipients to our university family.
