University Relations has a compelling story to tell as the University of Calgary positions itself — guided by the Eyes High strategic vision — as one of Canada’s top five research universities by 2016, where research and innovative teaching go hand in hand, and where we fully engage the communities we both serve and lead.
Our primary mandate is to build, enhance and protect the reputation of the University of Calgary. Our teams share the story of our goals and accomplishments with the University of Calgary’s communities of students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners and friends in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and around the world. We showcase the university’s teaching and research achievements, highlight the relevance of our successes to the broader community, and seek engagement on the challenges and opportunities we encounter as we evolve. We also emphasize to government the university’s vital role in supporting the strength of local and provincial communities. Our role is to ensure that the university is fully engaged with its internal and external communities — and that they are engaged with us. The university needs to demonstrate to all of our stakeholders that post-secondary education, and in particular the University of Calgary, is an essential part of their social and economic well-being and enlist their support as we plan for the future. There are four portfolio teams that comprise the University Relations division — in addition to the Office of the Vice-President, University Relations:
