We leverage University of Calgary’s unique expertise and capacities in research and education to provide solutions that improve the quality of life for disadvantaged children, men and women in the developing world. Developing capacities of individuals and institutions, working with the civil society, governments, academia and the private sector, our impact can be seen in improved quality and delivery of social services.


Priority sectors

Guided by the university’s expertise, research and academic goals, we focus on:

  • Education: basic education, curriculum development, teacher training, sector reform
  • Energy: affordable and sustainable access to energy sources for growth
  • Health: maternal and child health, infectious diseases
  • Smart cities: urban design, environmental sustainability, built environment
  • Social work: international and community development
  • Water and sanitation
  • Governance: public policy, taxation, regulatory reform, corporate social responsibility

Our approach

University of Calgary International works closely with partner institutions in the developing world on diverse research and education projects. We leverage our faculties’ expertise to:

  • develop capabilities to identify solutions to complex problems through applied research, training and education
  • partner with the private sector, academia, civil society organizations and governments, leveraging local capacities to identify and implement solutions
  • provide leadership, mentorship, institutional coherence and advice to the university community as it relates to international development
  • support Canada’s international development and conventions, by addressing issues related to environmental sustainability, gender equality, governance and human rights
