Volunteer at the Centre for International Students and Study Abroad (CISSA)

Whether you are an international or a domestic student, you can volunteer in one of the many interesting programs offered by our Centre for International Students and Study Abroad (CISSA). Build up your skills and work experience while having lots of fun as part of our enthusiastic and dedicated team of Peer Helpers. Check out these great volunteer opportunities:

Peer Helper Resource Assistants (CISSA)

We recruit a vibrant group of students every year who are passionate about internationalizing the University of Calgary campus. Our Peer Helper Resource Assistants are the first faces an individual sees when they enter into CISSA and help assist both international and domestic students alike by providing them with appropriate resources on how to be successful both in Calgary and abroad. Our Peer Helpers play an important role in the operation of our centre by working both in the office and by helping to organize programs, projects and events such as the Overseas Options Days and Culture Day.

Program Assistants for Student Services (PASS)

Every year we select 5 or 6 students to work closely with both our Study Abroad and International Student Services teams to help deliver programming and events that are relevant to both international students in Calgary and domestic students travelling abroad with their degrees. The Global Friendship Program team works with International Student Services to facilitate programming and events geared to familiarize UCalgary International Students with the campus and Calgary, along with help them interact with Canadian students. The Global Families Program team also works with International Student Services and aims at helping students with families participate in events on campus and in Calgary while interacting with other students with families. The Study Abroad Promotions team works with UCalgary Study Abroad to help promote various international study abroad programs and events to both domestic and international students hoping to internationalize their UCalgary degrees.

What does PASS involve?

  • 130 hours per term commitment (normally 10 hours/week during a 13-week term). You are not expected to work during exam periods or between terms.
  • An honorarium of $750 per term. If you leave PASS early, your honorarium is pro-rated according to the hours completed.
