The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Journal club provides regular, informal gatherings for faculty and staff where, after reading a shared article or two, participants discuss the reading. Come occasionally or regularly or once. The readings will be posted a few weeks before each session on the registration page.
In this session, read about lesson study projects in “Lesson Study as a Model for Building Pedagogical Knowledge and Improving Teaching” (Cerbin & Kopp, 2006), as well as at least one of these examples of lesson study in action:
Calculus: “A College Lesson Study in Calculus, A Preliminary Report” (Becker, Ghenciu, Horak, & Schroeder, 2007)
Women’s Studies: "Surfacing the Structures of Patriarchy: Teaching and Learning Threshold Concepts in Women's Studies” (Hassel, Reddinger, & van Slooten, 2011)
Education: “Lesson Study as a Means for Facilitating Preservice Teacher Reflectivity” (Myers, 2012)
