Live Online Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for University of Calgary Teaching Faculty

The 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program is designed to introduce meditation and body awareness through guided instruction in meditation, mindful stretching, group dialogue and homework. You will learn to access and cultivate your natural capacity to actively engage in caring for yourself and find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind. Click here for some current journal articles on the effectiveness of MBSR for a variety of medical and mental health concerns.

Registration is here and includes:

The MBSR program is funded by a University of Calgary Teaching Scholars Award and hosted in the Taylor Insitute for Teaching and Learning, therefore open to anyone who is directly involved with teaching and learning at the University of Calgary.

Participants should be prepared to commit to a minimum half-hour of daily meditation practice plus other homework. Yes, that’s a big time commitment, but you are worth it. For a good introduction to mindfulness I recommend MIndfulness: An eight-week plan for finding peace in a franctic world by Mark Williams and Danny Penman (2011), available at most book sellers.

Zoom works on your desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. You will need a good internet connection, a video camera and microphone/headset are preferred, but microphone/speakers also work. You can test your technology here
