A Community of Practice is a group of people who might not otherwise have a chance to interact on an on-going basis to collaborate on problem-solving, share best practices, create new knowledge and advance a domain of professional practice; in this case we explore the professional practice of contemplative approaches to teaching and learning.
Contemplative methods unlock the innate yet often unexplored capacity for intuitive knowledge, expanded consciousness, unconditional compassion for self and others, appreciation for beauty, and creative fulfillment (Grace, 2011). Good judgment, creativity, compassionate action, social-emotional intelligence, and true insight depend on the ability for balanced reflection, on sustained attention to complex situations, and equanimity in the face of difficulty. In short, a genuine, integrative education calls for the cultivation of our contemplative capacities (Zajonc, 2016).
The Contemplative Pedagogy Community of Practice (CPCoP) meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 am - 12 pm. Click here for the schedule. Join us for a short contemplative exercise followed by an exploration of a text related to a theme and reading each month. Opportunities to consult, be mentored, and observe teaching demonstrations and more are possible and to be determined by the CoP. The CPCoP is now in its second year, and growing in breadth and depth. Be a part of this exciting and transformative process!
