*NEW* MATH SEMINARS

Time Management for Math Courses

Getting behind in your math course can make it difficult to succeed, since course content often builds on what has already been covered.  Learn time management strategies to help you keep up with your course material, juggle a full schedule, get your assignments done on time, and set aside enough time to study for exams.  You’ll also get some tips on avoiding procrastination.

  • Tuesday, January 20th  5:00 – 6:30 pm  (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)
  • Wednesday, February 4th  5:00 – 6:30 pm   (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)

Annotating Math Problems

Working through practice problems is a key study strategy to succeeding in a math course.  Annotating (i.e., making notes on) problems makes this an even more effective study strategy:  boosting metacognitive skills (i.e., thinking about what you’re doing in the problem), annotation can help improve performance.  Learn several annotation strategies that can be used with a variety of math problems, and practice these strategies during the workshop.

  • Wednesday, January 28th  5:00 – 6:30 pm  (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)
  • Thursday, February 26th 5:00 – 6:30 pm   (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)

Reading Strategies for Math Texts

Math textbooks are different from other types of course textbooks – and very different from novels and other reading material that students are often more familiar with.  In fact, it might be more accurate to talk of learning from a math textbook, rather than reading it.  Get the most out of your math textbook with strategies that will help you make good use of the examples, explanations, practice problems, and overall organization of the textbook.

  • Tuesday, February 10th 5:00 – 6:30 pm   (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)
  • Wednesday, March 4th 5:00 – 6:30 pm   (TFDL 355d, SSC Classroom)
