Know your closest emergency exits and assembly point
As part of our efforts to support a safe campus environment, the university will carry out evacuation drills every September in buildings around campus. It is important for all students, faculty and staff to know your primary and secondary exits, your evacuation procedure and the assembly point for your building.
For a complete schedule of dates and times of evacuations, visit the emergency management website.
Know what to do in the unlikely event of an armed assailant on campus
In the unlikely event of an active shooter on campus, experts recommend three essential courses of action to help you avoid harm: Get out — Hide — Fight. These methods are demonstrated in the video Shooter on Campus: Know You Can Survive. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to view this instructional video or view the PowerPoint presentation.
Request a Safewalk
Twenty four hours a day and seven days a week, Safewalk volunteers walk people safely to their destination on campus. This service is free and available to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors, thanks to a collaboration between Campus Security and the Students' Union.
To request a Safewalk, call 403-220-5333, use one of the Help Phones on campus (they are not just for emergencies), or approach an on-duty Safewalk Volunteer, and request they walk with you.
