Institute for Biocomplexity and Informatics
The IBI conducts interdisciplinary research that seeks to combine burgeoning systems biology with complex systems sciences to better understand living systems. Through close interaction between theory, simulation and experimentation and between physics, chemistry and biology, we investigate the structure, dynamics and evolution of genetic regulatory networks and their behaviours – the missing link between genotype and phenotype. We use supercomputer power and state of the art functional genomics technologies to expand and deepen our understanding of cells and organisms.
The Institute for Environmental Toxicology
The Institute for Environmental Toxicology (IET) provides opportunities for advancement of knowledge and interdisciplinary research collaboration as well as partnerships between the university, private sector and government bodies to address important challenges concerning health and environmental impact of terrestrial and aquatic contaminants.
Institute for Quantum Science and Technology
The Institute for Quantum Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary group of researchers from the areas of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics, IQST's goals are to conduct leading research in key theoretical and experimental topics of quantum information science, to provide excellent education and training in quantum information and cognate areas, and to foster linkage between the Institute and other quantum information institutes and with industrial partners.
Institute for Security, Privacy and Information Assurance
The Institute for Security, Privacy and Information Assurance (ISPIA) collaborates with academics, private sector and government and is built around existing core strengths at the University of Calgary which include: cryptography, systems and software security, network security, privacy enhancing technologies. It will also draw heavily on experts in other University of Calgary faculties and will investigate areas of mutual interest.
Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy
ISEEE is a cross-faculty research and graduate training institute at the University of Calgary that develops cost-effective solutions to the environmental challenges of energy production and use. ISEEE's research and graduate program focus on energy systems and Energy Systems Analysis. We train graduate students, and develop new research tools and approaches, to analyze the environmental, energy security and socio-economic implications of deploying various energy and environmental technologies and policies within the Canadian and global energy systems. Our work informs critical investment and policy decisions by industry and government, in the transition to a more sustainable energy system in Canada.
