Important information about upcoming IT services outages taking place Feb 16-19

The University of Calgary Information Technologies (IT) team maintains thousands of desktops and laptops, systems and computer applications. IT maintenance work is required regularly to make certain IT can continue to support the university’s computer environment. In addition, upgrades to our technologies and security practices are also required. To allow for this work to occur, we have scheduled a series of outages in February.

Math Science and Science Theatres buildings shutdown

In addition to the outages, on Saturday, February 18, there will be a shutdown of the Math Sciences and Science Theatres buildings.

Please NOTE:

  • If you are in MS, please power off and unplug your computers and devices
  • All Department of Computer Science services will be unavailable internally and externally between Feb. 18 and Feb. 19

Outages

Date and time Description Impact

Thursday, February 16 - Friday, February 17

10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Full network outage

Majority of campus-wide IT services impacted by intermittent outages during this time. PeopleSoft will be unavailable for the duration of the period.

Friday, February 17 - Saturday, February 18

11:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m.

Internet outage

During this period there will be a 15 minute campus Internet outage. This means cloud-based systems such as Desire2Learn and Office 365 email will not be available.

Friday, February 18 - Saturday, February 19

 

Services outage

All Department of Computer Science services will be unavailable internally and externally between Feb. 18 and Feb. 19

Sunday, February 19

5:00 - 9:00 p.m.

VoIP phone outage

Users will be able to make calls, but incoming calls will be interrupted. A message will notify callers the telephone/voicemail system is currently unavailable. 

Campus Security telephones will not be affected.

While these outages have been scheduled overnight and on weekends to minimize disruption to the university, some users may be impacted. We apologize for the inconvenience. We recommend users save their files, log out of any IT services and turn off computer or device before the outage window begins.

Should you require assistance, please contact the IT Support Centre during regular hours. Please note Support Centre agents will not be available in-person on Saturday, February 18, but can be reached by email at itsupport@ucalgary.ca, online through live chat or by telephone at 403-220-5555. On Family Day, Monday, February 20, the Support Centre will be available onsite between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
