Residence parking permit lottery

Residents arriving during the school year, will need to contact Parking Services to inquire if space is available. If space is available, residents will be required to get proof of residence from the Residence Services office and provide to Parking Services.

Residence Parking Permits will be drawn through a lottery system for the upcoming academic year (Sept. 2017 – April 2018). Residence students will be able to enter the lottery through the Residence Services portal from June 15 – 30, 2017, entering their top two choices of preferred parking lots. You will only be allowed to enter your name one time for this lottery and only select a first and second choice.

All residence students will be notified of their lot assignment on or before August 2, 2017 via the email address that has been provided to Residence Services. (Please note that a University of Calgary email address is preferred as often Gmail and Hotmail accounts block emails from the university.)

Students living in Crowsnest Hall will only have two lot choices

Lot 12 - $840.00 + $42.00 GST = $882.00
Lot 65 - $840.00 + $42.00 GST = $882.00
All other residence students will have the following lots to choose from:

Lot 2 - $840.00 + $42.00 GST= $882.00
Lot 49 - $840.00 + $42.00 GST= $882.00
Art Parkade - $1024.00 + $51.20 GST= $1075.20
All prices quoted are for the eight month academic year: Sept. 2017 through April 2018.

The lots above are the only lots allocated for residence students to park in with a valid permit displayed at all times. The permit that is assigned to the student is to be used only by that student and for the vehicle registered with the permit. If a permit is found in a vehicle that has not been registered to the permit, it will be ticketed and/or towed.


Once you have been notified of your assignment you will be able to go online through the parking website ( and pay for the pass with a Visa/MasterCard or American Express.

Permits will be distributed on move-in day (September 3) in the resource fair held for Residence students in the Dining Centre. Payment will be accepted during this event for those wishing to pay via debit or personal cheque.

Proof of Vehicle Registration

Proof of Vehicle Registration must be provided before the permit will be issued. The registration can be provided to Parking Services on Residence move-in day. Or if the student is arriving on another day it can be provided at the Parking & Transportation Services office located at the north end of McMahon Stadium in the Olympic Volunteer Centre, room 146.

Some items to note

You are responsible for checking the outcome of the lottery by email. There will be NO additional reminders sent. It is your responsibility to check for status. Permits that are not fully paid for by Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. will be forfeited and assigned to the next person on the waiting list.

You must pick up your permit in person – picture ID, proof of vehicle registration and license(s) plate number will be required before your permit is released to you.

This lottery is Non Transferable. The person who applies must be the person the permit is assigned to. Permits are not transferable between persons. All applicants will be verified that they have been assigned to Residence prior to a permit being issued. Should a permit be found to be used by a nonresident, it will be considered invalid and subject to tow.

Having your own vehicle available while you are living in Residence may not be the best or most cost effective alternative for you.
