Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) is a joint program with NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR and Industry Canada that focuses on funding partnerships between universities, industry, government and not-for-profit organizations. Working through an interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral model, its centres and networks are world-class and bring together the best leaders in science and business.
Annual funding for the original NCEs currently stands at $82.4 million. In 2006/07, the Government of Canada committed more than $250 million to create the Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research, the Business-Led NCEs and an Industrial Research and Development Internship program.
In March, the NCE Secretariat launched a competition to fund new networks through the Networks of Centres of Excellence Program. The competition will be highly competitive, and results are expected in early 2015.
