Grants and Awards Division assists researchers with both the application and nomination processes associated with grants (external and internal) and research chairs as well as prizes and awards.
External grants focus on assisting and advising researchers applying for funding from government, industry and non-profit organizations. Major funding bodies include:
- Tri-Council (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- National Science Foundation (NSF)
- Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions
- Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures
- Canada Research Chairs
- Health / Disease Foundations
Dealing specifically with funding opportunities specific to the University of Calgary, internal grants coordinates application and peer review associated with
- University Research Grants Committee (URGC), and
- Killam Trust Awards
Grants staff also assists with determining applicant eligibility, identifying potential funding opportunities, coordinating training and information sessions and being available to guide researchers through the application process.
Prizes and awards supports the nomination process associated with prestigious prizes and awards. Working closely with faculty, staff facilitates the process with an aim to submit successful nominations for prizes and awards such as:
- ASTech Awards
- NSERC Herzberg Prize
- SSHRC Gold Medal
- Royal Society of Canada
- Steacie Fellowship
Staff can help identify upcoming deadlines, determine eligibility, and seek letters of support in addition to coordinating nomination package submission.
