Research Services provides advice and assistance with sponsored research, grants and contracts for research and scholarly activities, and help on University policy, procedures and requirements. Research Services also provides information regarding the interpretation and application of the University's Intellectual Property policy.

The Research Services Office works with the University of Calgary's research community to advance the research enterprise. As a team of professional service partners, the Research Services team aims to increase sponsored research revenue, reduce financial, reputational and market risk and manage compliance for the University.

The department is organized to effectively partner with the research community in four key areas:

There have been major changes to the funding landscape in recent years. Research funding pools are now progressively more targeted, complex and extremely competitive. Funding programs for major strategic initiatives, networks, centres of excellence and research infrastructure programs require comprehensive business case development, matching industrial support and commercialization strategies. The Research Services Office has aligned their suite of services to ensure the University of Calgary can respond successfully to such an environment.

With a mandate to provide timely, effective pre-award services, Research Services is accountable to the Vice-President (Research) and operates in a complex and competitive environment serving researchers, faculties, University leadership, and funders.
