Graduands must wear appropriate regalia to participate in Convocation ceremonies. Regalia consists of a gown, a hood which reflects your degree designation and a cap.
Reserve your gown and hood by submitting a $35.00 rental payment (Visa and MasterCard are accepted) through the Convocation Status page, which is available through the online Student Centre.
Wearing Your Regalia: Undergraduate/Masters
The gowns provided have been sized to fit based upon the information you submitted through your online Student Centre.
Undergraduate/Master caps are worn squarely on the head with the tassel to the left, and the deep seat of the crown at the back.
Please note: Corsages, jewelry, flowers, handbags, jackets or other mementos are not to be worn with academic gowns or taken on stage. This does not apply to the wearing of rings, watches and earrings.
Wearing Your Regalia: PhD/EDD
PhD/EDD John Knox caps will be adjusted for the graduate when they pick up their regalia.
Volunteers will show you how to hold the hood properly until the graduate is presented on stage. PhD/EDD students are hooded on stage.
Corsages, jewelry, flowers, handbags, jackets or other mementos are not to be worn with academic gowns or taken on stage. (Please note this does not apply to the wearing of rings, watches and earrings.) No facilities exist for checking these items; arrangements should be made prior to the ceremony for storage of valuables. The university will not be held responsible for the loss or theft of any valuables.
Unstaffed coat checks will be set up on the running track of the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
Flowers or handbags are neither worn nor carried during the Convocation ceremony. The Campus Florist will be available at Convocation for the purchase of roses at the entrance to the Olympic Oval. For further information please contact Campus Florist at (403) 282-1818 or 1-800-558-0073.
Regalia can be picked up starting at 8:00 AM for the morning ceremony and at 12:15 PM for the afternoon ceremony.
Return of Regalia
Immediately following the ceremony gowns should be returned to the Olympic Oval (Ice Level). Returns will be accepted until 6PM, with the exception of the final June convocation ceremony; for more information, please see these key dates.
Undergraduate and Master students are welcomed to keep their cap as a souvenir.
PhD/EDD graduates must return their full regalia (including the John Knox cap); a souvenir cap will be provided in its place.
