Undergraduate Awards for Continuing Students
General Information and Policies

The University of Calgary offers scholarships and bursaries to students continuing in their undergraduate degree program.

  • Eligibility: Open to students continuing in their undergraduate degree program after successfully completing the previous Fall and Winter Terms as a full-time student at the University of Calgary. A minimum GPA of 3.20 is required for scholarships and 2.60 for bursaries. The majority of these awards require the completion of at least 24.00 units of academic course work; applicants with a verifiable permanent disability are considered for these awards on at least 18.00 units.
  • Spring and summer courses are not used in the calculation of a scholarship average.

  • Students who participated in a Co-op work term in either Fall or Winter Terms may be eligible to apply for these awards; please contact the Student Awards Office (ucawards@ucalgary.ca) to verify eligibility.

Students participating in a 12- or 16-month internship are eligible to apply for these awards just prior to returning to full-time study at the University of Calgary. Grades earned in the previous Fall and Winter Terms before the start of the internship are used to calculate a scholarship average. These students are eligible for nominated awards (including those requiring an application to the faculty or department) before starting their internship period.
  • Students who participated in an official exchange program in either the previous Fall or Winter Terms are eligible to apply for these awards. Transferable courses from the host institution are combined with those from the University of Calgary to calculate a scholarship average. Students who participated in an official exchange over both terms are ineligible for these awards; these students may be eligible to apply for Transfer Awards upon returning to the University of Calgary.

Students who visited another post-secondary institution in either the previous Fall or Winter Terms and did not participate in an official exchange are ineligible to apply for these awards.
  • Students entering the first year of an After-Degree program are ineligible to apply for these awards; these students should apply after they have completed at least one year of the after-degree program.

Students with a previous degree who are entering the first year of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program are ineligible to apply for these awards; these students should apply after completing the upcoming Fall and Winter Terms as a full-time student.

Students with a previous degree who are enrolled in the Faculty of Law JD program are ineligible to apply for these awards; these students should apply for Faculty of Law Awards (refer to “Faculty of Law Awards” section of this Calendar).

Students with a previous degree who are enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program are ineligible to apply for these awards; these students should apply for Faculty of Medicine Awards (refer to “Faculty of Medicine Awards” section of this Calendar).
