Teaching and Learning Funding Committee

Engaging students for success

The University Teaching and Learning Funding Committee promotes the University of Calgary's commitment to teaching and learning, and to student involvement in research by distributing funds designated to support and strengthen teaching and learning.

Currently, the committee is supporting the two-year pilot initiative: Project Engage: Engaging Students and Faculty in First-year Arts and Sciences Courses.  The outcomes of Project Engage will benefit students, faculty and the University of Calgary as a whole.

  • Students will benefit from educational practices designed to improve the quality of their learning experiences.
  • Faculty will benefit by learning about and applying effective, and sustainable, educational practices.
  • The U of C will benefit as Project Engage directly targets the primary academic principle that underpins the priorities of the university-student success.

The committee also supports the Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE) The PURE fosters genuine research interests at the undergraduate level and provides practical financial support for the experience.

The University Teaching and Learning Funding Committee was established by the General Faculties Council and is accountable to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).

  • William Rosehart, Chair
  • Clem Martini, Past Chair

The overall objective of the committee is to effect significant improvements in the quality of the learning environment for students, and to do so in such a way that the benefits are felt by as many students as possible. These benefits will translate into higher levels of student engagement and motivation, and thereby promote the ultimate goal of increased student success.
