Jonathan (Jake) Gebert

Jonathan (Jake) Gebert became vice-president (finance and services) at the University of Calgary on July 1, 2009. Jake is responsible for a large portfolio, which includes the areas of financial services, human resources, information technologies, risk management, safety and security.

Jake began his career at the university in 2001 as the business manager of the Olympic Oval. He also held positions as director of resource allocation and associate vice-president (administration) prior to his appointment to a vice-presidential role. Before joining the University of Calgary, Jake was a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche Chartered Accountants.

Jake was active on the board of WinSport Canada (formerly Canada Olympic Development Association) as the university’s representative from 2004-2011. During this time, he was heavily involved in the renegotiation of the WinSport Canada legacy agreements to ensure stable funding for the future of the Olympic Oval.

Under Jake’s leadership, the university has significantly increased its financial stability and introduced a new operating model through the championing and co-sponsorship of the Innovative Support Services (iS²) project—a multi-year strategic initiative to improve financial controls, administrative services and reduce administrative costs across campus.

A leader of finance and services for the university, Jake is committed to providing services that are the framework for a safe, healthy and productive environment for students, faculty and staff to study, work and live.
