President Elizabeth CannonPresident Elizabeth CannonWelcome to the University of Calgary — a talented, driven and accomplished community of students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Abundant with opportunity and focused on innovation, the University of Calgary attracts talented students and scholars from around the world, and is home to 73 Canada Research Chairs, 50 Royal Society Fellows, and 80 research institutes and centres across 14 diverse faculties. In addition to the beautiful park-like campus in northwest Calgary with state-of-the art facilities including the Outdoor Centre, the Olympic Oval, the Taylor Family Digital Library, and the Energy, Environment, Experiential Learning building, the University of Calgary extends to satellite campuses: Downtown, Foothills, Spy Hill and the University of Calgary-Qatar which is home to a flourishing nursing program.

As part of the University of Calgary’s commitment to community, fostering leadership, and inspiring academic excellence, we support the efforts of more than 400 student-athletes in 15 varsity sports and encourage all students to get involved in life in residence and on campus, to participate in Orientation Week activities, the Common Reading Program, and to join in fundraising activities on campus like the United Way Campaign. Students can participate in international study, volunteer work and research programs that provide our graduates a global context and reach while promoting diversity in teaching and research.

Strong ties to this community have fueled the University of Calgary’s success for nearly fifty years, and a continued commitment to community, research excellence and an enriched student experience will see us achieve our ambitious plans for this institution. We have set in motion our Eyes High strategic direction, our vision for a University of Calgary that innovates, inspires, promotes creativity and discovery, and reflects the energy and drive of this wonderfully supportive and enterprising city.

Our goal is to become one of Canada’s top five research universities by our 50th anniversary in 2016, grounded in innovative learning and teaching and fully integrated with the community of Calgary. To map our course toward that ambitious goal, we have created comprehensive Academic and Research Plans, aligning our expertise, refining our multidisciplinary approaches, and streamlining our internal processes.

The University of Calgary is intent on seizing the opportunities before us: maximizing our research expertise, exercising our leadership potential, and engaging with our community.

Welcome, and Eyes High!
