President Elizabeth CannonPresident Elizabeth Cannon

Welcome to the University of Calgary — a vibrant community of thought-leaders, innovators and change-makers in Canada’s most enterprising city.

Our university is a Calgary success story, growing from very humble beginnings into a thriving intellectual hub of over 30,000 talented students, faculty and staff from around the world. This dynamic community spans 14 diverse faculties, more than 50 research institutes and centres, and five campuses, including the site of our nursing program at the University of Calgary in Qatar.

We are also home to more than 148 research chairs, such as the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Materials Engineering for Unconventional Oil Reservoirs, and we have been ranked as one of the top 200 most globally oriented universities in the world according to Times Higher Education.

Our university is proud of our spirited beginning and we look forward to a promising future as we continue to fulfill the bold ambitions of our Eyes High strategic vision. Our goal is to be recognized as one of Canada’s top five research universities, delivering innovative solutions to our society’s most pressing needs and helping our students thrive through enriched learning opportunities in research, interdisciplinary collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking.

We know that space has a tremendous impact on learning and research, so our campus boasts numerous state-of-the-art facilities to bring out the best in our students and scholars. These innovative spaces include the Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. Engineering Complex and the LEED Gold certified Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, among many others.

The University of Calgary is also dedicated to fostering a supportive, inclusive campus culture where students can build meaningful connections and grow. This commitment is reflected in our institutional strategies, such as our Campus Mental Health Strategy and Institutional Sustainability Strategy, as well as our day-to-day activities.

Together, we cheer on our Dinos student-athletes in 14 varsity teams and nine club sports, and we encourage all students to get involved through events like Orientation WeekUCalgary Strong, and the university’s annual United Way Campaign. Students can also learn about global issues through our international study program, and they can grow their skills as community leaders and contributors through ucalgarycares.

After graduation, our students join a proud community of nearly 170,000 alumni in more than 150 countries around the world. These alumni are trailblazers and innovators who demonstrate our university’s shared values of collaboration, curiosity and excellence.

The University of Calgary has made tremendous progress towards our ambitious goals — and much of this success reflects the support of our extraordinary community. Together, we are making the most of the opportunities before us, sparking positive change in our city, province and beyond through innovation and discovery.

Welcome to the University of Calgary!
