A prominent researcher in the faculty, Benzies leads an interdisciplinary program of research in early parent-child relationships with a focus on families of children at biological and psychosocial risk for developmental delays. She has published 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at over 100 conferences, and is a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute. In 2010, she received the Nursing Excellence in Research Award from the College and Association of Registered Nurses in Alberta, and last year, a U Make a Difference award for her teaching.

“My most satisfying accomplishments come from creating linkages among researchers, clinicians and policy makers to improve the health and well-being of young children and their families,” she says. “This recognition from The Centre is truly an honour.”

ACCFCR is a not-for-profit, charitable corporation established as a partnership between Alberta’s universities, the community and the Alberta government. The award commemorates the significant contributions made to Alberta’s children, families and communities by Dr. Robert Westbury, the inaugural board chairman. Benzies received the award in Edmonton on Thursday, May 23.
