Kate Thompson is director of development at Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), the agency responsible for the implementation of the Rivers District Community Revitalization Plan.

A graduate from the University of Calgary with a Master of Architecture, Thompson has been a strong advocate of helping grow Calgary into a dynamic community to work, play and live.

Her recent appointment as director at CMLC has earned her a critical role overseeing the development and construction of Calgary’s River District and more specifically, the East Village area.

“As director I am a part of the senior management team that guides the development in East Village,” says Thompson. “I am responsible for the delivery and review of all projects in East Village. It is an amazing opportunity for me to be a part of this scale of project at this stage of development.”

Once known for its abandoned and vacant lots, the East Village has recently started experiencing an exciting transformation.

CMLC plays a key role guiding and executing the strategic plan to reinvigorate the area.

The East Village sits on 49 acres of real estate in the heart of downtown Calgary, sprawling between historic Fort Calgary and the business core. It is a highly desirable parcel of land along the Bow River.

“We have laid the groundwork for a large portion of the horizontal infrastructure and are now beginning to build our vision vertically,” notes Thompson. “It’s a time of great change and excitement.”

Join the Faculty of Environmental Design for this special presentation with Thompson as she takes us behind the scene of the East Village project Thursday, March 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Professional Faculties Building, Room 2160.
