On Dec. 5 the food bank was visited by Kevin Barry, Chair of AUPE Local 52 who came bearing two cheques. The first cheque was in the amount of $3,000.00 ― is AUPE Local 52’s annual holiday contribution to the food bank. The other cheque was for $1,946.26, additional support raised through donations from staff members.

“In order to be a part of the University of Calgary’s community, we need to show our support to the community,” states Barry.

These two cheques are on top of AUPE Local 52’s regular monthly donations, which makes them the food bank’s largest supporter. Their generous support is helping to fund a new program offered this holiday season ― the Holiday Hamper.

The SU Campus Food Bank also recognizes the University of Calgary’s Parking Services support. On Oct. 25, Parking Services held a free parking day in Lot 10 for students who donated two non-perishable items to the food bank.

This event brought in 288 food items to the food bank and was a huge support heading into the holiday season. Without generous groups like Parking Services, the food bank would not be able to provide as graciously for its campus clientele.
