James (Jim) S. Palmer was chancellor of the University of Calgary from 1986 to 1990. He passed away on Aug. 27, 2013.James (Jim) S. He passed away on Aug. 27, 2013.The University of Calgary community is mourning the passing of its great friend and former chancellor, James (Jim) S. Palmer.  Jim died on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The university community extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jim Palmer.

Jim was chancellor from 1986 to 1990, and received an honorary degree in 1993 from the University of Calgary.  He also has a long history with the university as a significant philanthropist and donor, such as his service as chair of the Building the Vision Campaign from 1990 to 1993.  A gift from Jim and his wife Barbara established the James S. & Barbara A. Palmer Chair in Public Policy in the School of Public Policy.

Information on a memorial service will be shared once available.
