Students can now access dental services through the SU Wellness Centre.
The SU Wellness Centre opened almost a year ago and now adds dental care to the list of services accessible to students.
The Centre is a Quality Money initiative—partnership between the University of Calgary and the U of C Students’ Union—and is home to U of C Health Services, the Counselling Centre, the Chaplains’ Centre, and now, Dental Choice.
The Dental Choice Office construction was completed earlier this fall and houses full dental services. As part of the SU Wellness Centre, the new dental service expands the holistic approach to well-being that guides the centre.
“The SU Wellness Centre offers student health services, counselling services and chaplaincy to provide wellness in body, mind, and spirit to support academic and personal success,” said Debbie Bruckner, Wellness Centre manager. “Thanks to the addition of Dr. Herchen and his team, students now have even greater access to health and wellness services in one central location.”
Dental Choice was established in 1997 by owner and president, Dr. Hans Herchen, and has six locations in Calgary and five in Edmonton. The University of Calgary is Dental Choice’s newest location.
“When we opened the SU Wellness Centre last year the Students’ Union and the university made a commitment to provide a full range of health and wellness services for students in one location” said SU President Charlotte Kingston. “I am very excited to officially welcome Dental Choice to our campus as we continue to expand on the range of health resources available to students.”
“Thanks to the cooperation of the Students’ Union we can ensure that every student gets an annual exam, x-rays and cleaning,” continued Dr. Herchen. “This office will help thousands of students get dental care they would normally skip or avoid. We can help students get treatment while their problems are small, so they don’t have unpleasant dental experiences either during their school years or once they graduate.”
