I have pursued research in two main areas of Tropical Archaeology: the comparative analysis of chimpanzee and hominin material cultures in the rainforests of western Ivory Coast, and the origins of modern human behavior in the woodlands of northern Mozambique. My expertise in the archaeology of the forested regions of Africa draws on more than 13 years of experience in five African countries located along the wet tropical belt. My Canada Research Chair position has allowed me to channel this diversity of experiences through two projects that deal with interdisciplinary research focusing on significant evolutionary shifts in early human behavior.
