Canadian author. Born August 25, 1921 in Belfast, Ireland. Emigrated to Canada in 1948. Lived in Malibu, California from 1965 until his death on January 11, 1999, but retained Canadian citizenship. Further biographical information available in The Oxford companion to Canadian literature, 2nd ed., p. 765-766; in Brian Moore : the chameleon novelist / by Denis Sampson (Toronto : Doubleday Canada, 1998); and in Brian Moore : a biography / by Patricia Craig (London : Bloomsbury, 2002).
Fonds consists of correspondence; manuscripts of novels, short stories, articles, essays, book reviews, screenplays and stage plays; works on B. Moore; and miscellaneous material. Also includes five small appendices (MsC 32, 33, 34, 35, 43) consisting of material relating to B. Moore and acquired from other sources. Appendices include television script of A view from across the water; correspondence and contracts relating to publication by Harlequin Books Limited of Wreath for a redhead and The executioners; promotional material and reviews of Citadel Theatre production of Catholics; and sound recording of speech given by B. Moore. MsC 267 consists of postcard from the spinster lady Mary Judith Keogh (the original of Judith Hearne) to B. Moore's aunt, Mrs. McInally, in Belfast circa 1900.

First and second accessions acquired in 1975 and 1985. Appendices acquired in 1980s. MsC 33 and 35 donated by Fred Kerner, Harlequin Books; MsC 34 donated by Publicity Secretary, Citadel Theatre. MsC 267 donated by Jean Moore in 2000.
