Student Activities Fund

The University of Calgary is committed to providing an outstanding student experience to all undergraduate and graduate students, and to helping students build their leadership identity.

In keeping with this commitment, the Student Activities Fund was established to financially support student initiatives that promote student engagement and allow students to participate in experiences that enhance their leadership, educational, and professional development goals.

The Student Activities Fund is awarded through the Leadership and Student Engagement office, and is a joint collaboration between the University of Calgary and Students’ Union Quality Money.

Fund Amounts Available

Approximately $21,500 will be available to be distributed during each application period.

The maximum award amounts individual students* can apply for in one calendar year (January-December) will normally be:

  • $650 for domestic travel
  • $750 for international travel (outside of Canada/USA)

The maximum award amounts student groups* can apply for in one calendar year (January-December) will normally be:

  • $1000

* Please note that if a student group applies for funding and is successful, and an individual application for funding is also received for the same event/initiative/travel costs, the individual application will not be considered, but will be incorporated into the group application.

Selection / Awarding of Funds

Fund distribution will be competitive, and as such we encourage you to fill out your application thoroughly and in detail. It is essential that in (d) Description and purpose of your activity, you clearly state how the activity will contribute to your leadership development. Selection decisions will also be based on need, and whether you have already secured alternative sources of funding outside of the Student Activities Fund.

Fund distribution decisions will be made by the Student Activities Fund Committee, which is chaired by the Manager, Leadership, Training and Development, and is comprised of five other members, one undergraduate student, one graduate student, the Associate Vice-Provost (Student Services), one Faculty member, and the Coordinator, Leadership and Training Programs.

Winter Semester: January 1 to April 30, 2012

Spring Semester: May 1 to August 31, 2012

Fall Semester: September 1 to December 31, 2012

October 19, 2012, 4:30pm
